Wolves player spotted with ice packs on both knees in open training session at Molineux

Wolves are gearing up for their next Premier League game against Crystal Palace, and hosted an open training session at Molineux yesterday.

Gary O’Neil saw his side fight back from two goals down to rescue a point against Brighton on Saturday.

Wolves appeared to be heading for an eighth defeat in nine games when Evan Ferguson scored in the 85th minute.

But Wolves defied the odds and drew 2-2, with Matheus Cunha scoring an equaliser in the 93rd minute after fantastic defensive work by Tommy Doyle to snuff out a four-on-one Brighton attack.

Cunha further emphasised his status as a clutch player for Wolves, and he is going to be absolutely key in the coming weeks.

But there was slight concern about the Brazilian yesterday.

On Monday, Molineux hosted its annual Halloween Open Training session, allowing families to watch the players during half-term.

The open training session is always a chance for young fans to get pictures and autographs from their heroes, as well as watch them being put through their paces.

Wolves released some pictures of the session earlier today via their website.

And interestingly in one photo (inserted above), Cunha can be seen sitting down with ice packs strapped to both of his knees.

Ahead of these photos, the person owning the award-winning Wolves fan channel @wolvesfancast had attended the session.

They made some observations from the session, stating that ‘Cunha started training but then took a seat in the dugout with ice packs on his knees’.

Mario Lemina came off injured against Brighton, and @wolvesfancast also said that the captain did not partake in the actual training session, and instead remained in the concourse and signed autographs.

What is Matheus Cunha’s injury record for Wolves?

Hopefully, there is nothing really in this and Cunha won’t have any issues ahead of the huge game with Palace this weekend.

This is now a time when O’Neil cannot be losing key players – and they don’t come much more key for Wolves than Cunha.

The Brazilian’s injury record for Wolves is not too bad, but it’s not perfect either.

Since he joined the club in January 2023, he’s only really had a couple of injuries. He picked up a hamstring injury in February 2024 and missed five Premier League games and also two FA Cup matches against Brighton and Coventry City.

Cunha picked up another hamstring injury during a pre-season friendly with West Ham United, but recovered in a couple of weeks and was able to play just over half an hour of Wolves’ opener against Arsenal.

In the 2022/23 season, he missed just one squad against Liverpool with a knock.
