Wolves player admits he’s finally ‘happy’ at Molineux despite never playing for Vitor Pereira

Wolves are experiencing a summer of change, with decisions being made to hopefully drag them up the Premier League table in 2025/26.

The Wanderers are overhauling their recruitment team to hand Vitor Pereira more control over transfers, and that has seen Matt Hobbs leave his role as sporting director after almost three years.

Domenico Teti’s arrival as a technical director is pending, after working alongside Pereira during his time at Al Shabab.

Teti will be joined by super agent Jorge Mendes, who is set to influence transfers at Molineux once more, having previously helped Wolves sign a raft of Portuguese talent, including Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.

Supporters will pray all of those cogs can combine to create a winning formula, with one forgotten player hopeful of finally making an impact under Pereira.

Sasa Kalajdzic is finally ‘happy’ at Wolves

Four first-team players have already left Wolves, most notably Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri, but also veterans Craig Dawson and Pablo Sarabia.

One individual who could get an opportunity next season is forward Sasa Kalajdzic. The Austrian was signed from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2022 but has unfortunately only made 14 appearances after suffering two ACL injuries.

The latest happened out on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt in February 2024, with Kalajdzic returning to training in May 2025.

Now, since the 27-year-old has become injury-prone, clubs are reluctant to sign Kalajdzic permanently and would prefer to take him on loan.

However, the 19-cap Austrian international is only focused on the present, and in a recent interview with Wolves’ official website, he admitted he’s finally ‘happy’ after recovering from a long setback.

“I just want to be as far away from Compton as possible right now, because I’ve seen it every day, and I haven’t seen it how I wanted it to see it,” Kalajdzic said.

“I came every day to the training ground knowing I had to do rehab, I had to do gym, and it’s not what you want to do. That’s not why I came here. I’m just happy now that when I drive to training, I’m looking forward to the pitch sessions with the guys and just having fun again and just playing football because I love it.”

Kalajdzic was reduced to tears after latest ACL injury

To suffer one ACL injury is damaging enough, but two is extremely bad luck. That is the reality of what Kalajdzic has experienced since joining Wolves.

Some of his best years have been taken by long periods on the sidelines, and after his latest long-term setback, he revealed that it reduced him to tears.

“I’m very good. It was very, very tough, mentally and physically [this season],” he said. “Some people say at least you know what to expect. But it was very, very tough, and I knew how tough it was in front of me. It was very, very challenging. When I got the diagnosis, I fell into tears, I was really heartbroken this time, I was just speechless, and I couldn’t understand why it happened again but luckily the time is over.”

Although no player deserves to go through the injury problems he’s had, it’s made him stronger physically and mentally. He’s even managed to play some friendly games where his body held up well.

“I’ve been doing well. I’ve had already some friendly games where I’ve had some minutes. So, I’m really, really happy about that. I feel really strong. I feel very comfortable in my body. I feel that my knees are coping with everything well, and my body’s coping well, I’ve worked hard for this, and now I’m just looking forward to the future.”
