Wolves now told to repeat Arsenal trick to ‘really help’ Fabio Silva

David Seaman believes the idea of Wolves striker Fabio Silva going out on loan is a good thing, and highlighted the development of William Saliba at Arsenal as an example.

Wolves came up as a topic of conversation on the Seaman Says podcast, following the 2-2 draw with Newcastle United on Saturday night.

The game saw Wolves lose Pedro Neto to injury. The winger was racing towards goal, but pulled up clutching his hamstring.

It was a very worrying scene seeing him leaving the field on a stretcher. But he may only be out for a few weeks, which is not too bad considering how serious some hamstring injuries can be.

The talk on the Seaman Says podcast was about who might come in to replace Neto. And Silva’s name was floated.

The fact he went out on loan last season was discussed, and Seaman reckons that can only be a good thing for Silva in the long run…

Last term, Silva first went on loan to Anderlecht, before moving in January to PSV Eindhoven. It was a pretty productive season for the Portuguese youngster, who scored 16 goals in total across the two spells.

Silva returned to Wolves in the summer and apparently sporting director Matt Hobbs played a big role in making him feel valued.

Silva did get a handful of opportunities at the start of the season. But he’s now played just eight minutes across Wolves’ five-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

It has had some people wondering if he might head out on loan again in January.

On the concept of Silva going out on loan, Seaman said: “The fact he is going out on loan is good because he’s getting match day experience. We have seen that at Arsenal with Saliba. You wouldn’t believe the player who left Arsenal to go out on loan, the one who came back was like Saliba’s other twin that had been training with Beckenbauer or someone! It can really help. But it is another step up, another level.”

Fabio Silva January loan could be on the cards if things don’t change

Silva has barely featured over the past month or so for Wolves.

Gary O’Neil laid down the gauntlet to him at the end of September, suggesting that he needed to work ‘extremely hard‘. But regular minutes have not been forthcoming.

Silva is firmly behind Matheus Cunha in the pecking order right now and Sasa Kalajdzic also appears to be O’Neil’s first choice from the bench.

If things don’t change then we could be seeing Silva pushing for a loan move in January. Given everything he said in the summer, it doesn’t feel likely that he will sit and accept his current level of involvement.

Hopefully, it would only be a loan and not a permanent sale.

The development of £27 million ‘Rolls-Royce’ Saliba at Arsenal has been amazing to see and many Wolves fans would love Silva enjoy a similar path.
