Wolves now in talks with Daniel Podence’s current manager to succeed Gary O’Neil, he’s won four titles

Wolves are said to be already working on a deal to appoint Gary O’Neil’s successor.

Gary O’Neil was sacked earlier today by Wolves, after the club fell to another defeat in the Premier League against Ipswich Town.

O’Neil’s time is up, despite only being backed by Jeff Shi earlier this week.

The talk has now turned to who could replace him at Molineux, with John Eustace mentioned as being ‘in the frame’.

But journalist David Ornstein has delivered a big update this afternoon, with Vitor Pereira now set to take over.

David Ornstein – one of the game’s most reputable journalists – has reported today that Wolves have already opened talks with Vitor Pereira to replace O’Neil.

Pereira is currently the head coach of Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab, whom Daniel Podence joined in the summer. So far, Podence has made four appearances under him there.

In his report in The Athletic, Ornstein states Wolves are said to be ready to pay the release clause of the 56-year-old.

It’s stated personal terms aren’t expected to be an issue and that Pereira is excited by the quality of the squad.

Pereira, along with his backroom staff, have won titles with Porto, Olympiacos and Shanghai SIPG. He won two with Porto, and one each at Shanghai and Olympiacos.

Pereira would have a huge job on his hands at Wolves

This has come out of the blue, and Wolves fans will be desperate that the Portuguese can turn things around at Molineux, if he does indeed come in as O’Neil’s replacement

The Portuguese will have a huge job on his hands if he does take the job.

Sacking O’Neil is the right call, but fans should not expect too much from Pereira if he does come in, as we all know there are so many issues right now.

One can only hope that this particular managerial change would strike a chord with the players, as much as they liked O’Neil.
