Wolves next manager latest: Journalist claims Wolves could make Lopetegui announcement next week

Wolves could announce Julen Lopetegui as their new manager next week, according to Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida.

The 56-year-old is taking charge of Sevilla tonight for the final time, against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Lopetegui has had a difficult start to the 2022/23 season, with Sevilla having just one of their nine games across all competitions so far.

But he lost key players like Diego Carlos and Jules Kounde in the summer.

Prior to this term, Lopetegui had done a really good job at the Spanish outfit, helping to guide the club to three top-four finishes.

He appears to have reached the end of his cycle, and it has been widely reported that his exit will be announced following the game with Dortmund.

Sevilla officials have wanted to sack Lopetegui, but decided against making that call before tonight’s big game.

Jorge Sampaoli is waiting in the wings to succeed him, and will be in Seville tomorrow.

According to journalist Almeida, ‘there is a possibility that the Spanish coach will be announced at Wolverhampton early next week’.

This weekend, Steve Davis and James Collins will take the first-team against Chelsea in the Premier League.

The U18s and U21s coaches have been working with the players in training this week.

Ideally Lopetegui will get a full week of training in at Wolves ahead of game with Nottingham Forest

Wolves of course need to take their time to ensure to right appointment.

But it would be ideal if they could get the next man in at the start of next week, so he has plenty of time to work with his new players ahead of the game with Nottingham Forest.

Lopetegui is seemingly quite a popular choice with a lot of Wolves fans on social media.

Hopefully it will indeed be him that replaces Lage.

His great work overall at Sevilla makes him a really good candidate, despite his struggles this season.
