Wolves news round-up: Matheus Cunha fallout continues, attacker returns from injury and more

Wolves are in a weird interim period. They’re licking their wounds after being dumped out of the FA Cup on penalties by Bournemouth but are also looking ahead to an important league fixture against Everton.

The Old Gold have 11 games left to save their season, but will be without the help of Matheus Cunha for at least three of them following his recent straight FA Cup red card.

As a result, there is a lot of hysteria surrounding the South American, who unsurprisingly continues to dominate headlines.

Matheus Cunha fallout continues

Matheus Cunha’s straight red card against Bournemouth remains one of the biggest talking points at Wolves.

The Brazilian’s senseless behaviour, which not only cost Wolves the game, but could also impact their chances of securing Premier League survival, has understandably angered fans.

What has made matters worse was Cunha’s decision to post a clip of the goal he scored against Bournemouth just hours after the final whistle. The striker then continued to fuel the fire. Cunha posted a cryptic post thanking the “true fans” for supporting him.

Strange to say the least.

Clubs distancing themselves from Cunha

As a result of his explosive behaviour, according to reports, clubs have concerns over Cunha’s temperament and could opt against signing him in the summer.

Cunha is wanted by at least six sides, but now faces an uncertain future as Wolves sweat on the possibility of a buying club triggering his release clause, believed to be worth £62.5 million, in the summer.

Matt Doherty’s poorly placed penalty kick last weekend, which sealed the tie for Bournemouth, cost Wolves £250,000 in FA Cup prize money.

The Old Gold’s exit at the fifth round stage means they missed the chance to secure a six-figure sum for progression to the quarter-finals.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, could win themselves another £450,000 if they beat competition favourites Manchester City later this month.

Rodrigo Gomes back from injury

After missing Wolves’ last five games, in all competitions, Rodrigo Gomes is back from injury.

Although the 21-year-old is unlikely to start against Everton on Saturday, his return to fitness could see him named on the substitute’s bench.

Gomes’ availability is a much-needed boost for Vitor Pereira, who now has to find a way to manage without Cunha for at least the next three matches.
