Wolves’ new signing admits he’s not played in the position Vitor Pereira wants him in before

One of Wolves’ new players has revealed his thoughts about his new role in the upcoming Premier League campaign.

This Wolves side looks very different from the one Vitor Pereira inherited from Gary O’Neil midway through last season.

Most fans would agree that the same level of star power is missing after Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri exited the club.

But that isn’t preventing one new arrival from getting excited about the change in position he’s set to undergo.

David Moller Wolfe is optimistic about new wing-back role at Wolves

One of three new faces to arrive at Wolves so far this summer, David Moller Wolfe has shared his thoughts on going from a traditional left-back to a more attack-minded wing-back under his new manager.

Speaking to E&S journalist Liam Keen, Moller Wolfe had this to say about his new coach: “Very good, from day one. I feel like he trusts me and he helps me with everything, the small details.”

On playing at wing-back: “It’s a bit of a new role for me since I’ve been playing in a back four and now I’m going in a back five and I think it’s going to suit me incredibly well.”

The Norwegian has some sizeable shoes to fill, replacing Ait-Nouri who was integral to Wolves’ creative play last season. But Moller Wolfe has shown he can adapt to the requirements outlined by Pereira, and he’ll hope to help Wolves fans forget about the loss of a key player.

Competition between David Moller Wolfe and Hugo Bueno is good for Wolves

Having that added pressure of competition for starts is crucial in a team at the top level, and Moller Wolfe has no qualms with it, as he explains: “It’s very good for me to have healthy competition. It helps us both on the training pitch to try to be good for every single detail, every single exercise in the training.”

Hugo Bueno will challenge Moller Wolfe for minutes this season after returning from a loan spell at Feyenoord.

The two have quite different skillsets, giving Pereira some tactical flexibility. Bueno is a more direct, attacking wing-back who is prone to the odd defensive lapse. Wolves’ new signing is more defensively solid, but perhaps not as explosive going forward.

The battle between the two will be interesting, and something that should raise the level of the team overall.
