Unfortunately, over recent years, results have been conflicting regarding the club’s most expensive signings.
All of Wolves’ highest transfers have come since their promotion back to the Premier League. Now, the club looks set to spend big again.
Therefore, Molineux News has ranked Wolves’ 10 most expensive transfers of all time to see where potential new signings could rank on this list.
10 – Daniel Podence
Winger Daniel Podence made a permanent switch to Molineux in January 2020. The Portuguese man joined from Olympiacos for a fee of £16.9 million.
During his time at Molineux, he scored multiple crucial goals, especially in the 2022/23 campaign as Wolves survived relegation.
9 – Adama Traore
One of Wolves best transfers since their promotion to the Premier League. Adama Traore joined the club from Middlesbrough for £18 million for their first season back in the top flight.
Here, he made an immediate impact, scoring in a 1-0 win over West Ham to give the Old Gold their first Premier League victory since 2012. In 2023, he left the club at the end of his contract after five years.
8 – Nathan Collins
Nathan Collins had a short spell at Wolves. Coming in from relegated Burnley, the club spent £20.5 million ahead of the 2022/23 season.
However, after just one year, he quickly departed for Brentford making little impact at Molineux.
7 – Patrick Cutrone
Most likely a forgotten man for many. Wolves signed Patrick Cutrone in 2019 aiming to give some more competition to Raul Jimenez. Joining for £23 million, he made little to no impact and was regularly sent out on loan.
In 2022, his time at Wolves officially came to an end, with the Italian only scoring three goals in 28 games.
6 – Nelson Semedo
The first Wolves player who is still at the club is Nelson Semedo. The right-back joined the club in 2020 from Barcelona for an initial fee of £27.5 million.
Despite a sub-par start to his Wolves career, he has now become one of their best players. In the 2023/24 campaign, he was rewarded for his performances with the Player’s Player of the Year Award.
5 – Goncalo Guedes
Another flop signing for Wolves has been Goncalo Guedes. The winger joined Wolves for £27.5 million from Valencia with high expectations.
However, just six months later he was shipped off on loan to Benfica as Wolves struggled against relegation.
Guedes is still owned by the Molineux side and his future is still unclear.
4 – Raul Jimenez
In complete contrast, Raul Jimenez is easily one of Wolves’ best signings. The Mexican initially joined the club on loan before the move became permanent for a then-record £30 million deal in 2019.
While his head injury haunted the end of his Wolves career, he left the club a modern-day legend in 2023.
3 – Fabio Silva
One of Wolves’ worst transfers of all time, Fabio Silva joined Wolves for £35 million back in 2020. Despite his low-scoring record, he is still on the books at the club, spending 2024 out on loan to Rangers.
Now, Wolves’ number nine is searching for a new beginning. Fabio Silva had recently been linked with Sevilla.
2 – Matheus Nunes
When Matheus Cunha first joined Wolves, there was plenty of hype surrounding the signing. The midfielder joined the club for £38 million from Sporting CP. However, he only lasted a year at Molineux.
Despite an uninspiring 2022/23 campaign, the Portuguese international won a move to Man City for a record Wolves sale.
1 – Matheus Cunha
Wolves’ current record signing is Matheus Cunha. O’Neil’s Brazil maestro arrived under Julen Lopetegui originally on loan in the 2023 January transfer window. However, Wolves quickly triggered the option to buy the attacker for £44 million.
Since then, Cunha has proved his worth and scored a highly memorable second goal past West Brom in the FA Cup to win 2-0.
