Wolves midfielder ‘expected’ to join League One club, agreement ‘close’

Wolves could be close to sanctioning their second outgoing of the summer after Max Kilman, with one player closing in on a move to League One.

So far, there hasn’t been a huge amount of activity regarding outgoings at Wolves.

There has been plenty of speculation as expected. The likes of Pedro Neto, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Joao Gomes and most recently Hwang Hee-chan have all been linked with moves away.

But so far, only Kilman has departed, with West Ham United rising him away for £40 million in the end.

But fans do expect more players to be on their way, with lots of time remaining in the window.

And it could be that news of a second outgoing will arrive soon, with midfielder Joe Hodge lined up for a move to the English third tier.

In the first half of last season, Hodge picked up a shoulder injury at Wolve which put him on the sidelines for around two months.

Hodge had already suffered a hamstring injury against Blackpool in the Carabao Cup, which put him out for a few weeks. The came his shoulder issue.

This was a big shame for Hodge, who had caught the eye with some decent displays in 2022/23. He had been looking to build, but injury halted his momentum.

In January, he went on loan to QPR and played a small part in them pulling from the relegation zone, making eight appearances for the club.

Huddersfield Town have come in for the player, and Hodge is now set for a stint in League One, with the Terriers having suffered relegation last season.

E&S journalist Liam Keen wrote on X on Thursday afternoon: “Wolves and Huddersfield are really close to an agreement over Joe Hodge.

“Talks ongoing over a season-long loan and deal expected to go through.”

A coup for Huddersfield

So Hodge looks set to complete a move to Huddersfield which is an interesting move given their relegation to League One.

The 21-year-old didn’t get as many minutes as he or Wolves would have liked at QPR, and seemingly the thinking here is for him to go to a club where he will surely be starting week in, week out.

If this does go through then it is a big coup for Huddersfield.

Hodge got really unlucky with his injury last year. He likely would have gone out on loan in January anyway, but he really was robbed of a chance to impress O’Neil.

As Matt Doherty called him last season, he is a ‘nice and tidy’ player and also quite combative, and he should fare well in League One. Hopefully, he can thrive and potentially make Wolves some money in the summer in 2025, or even mark himself out as a first-team option.
