Wolves’ search for a new manager is continuing, and despite previous downplaying of taking the role, Rob Edwards is still firmly in the mix with a shortlist drawn up.
Speaking ahead of Middlesbrough’s match against Leicester City, Edwards stated he was only focusing on that game amid links to his former side.
The former Welsh international is a known figure at Molineux, having spent four years of his playing career at the Old Gold from 2004 to 2008.
Edwards has been warned about taking the Wolves job, but that existing connection could be beneficial for the Wanderers.
Now, an update on Wolves’ search for Vitor Pereira’s replacement has emerged, including details on Rob Edwards’ standings.

Rob Edwards at the top of Wolves’ shortlist for next manager
Rob Edwards is leading the way in Wolves’ shortlist to replace Vitor Pereira.
As the Old Gold look to hire a new manager, the current Middlesbrough boss has emerged as the frontrunner on their list, as reported by Liam Keen.
According to the journalist, talks have taken place with representatives of Rob Edwards, but Wolves are not risking being left short, as “Wolves are still discussing with other candidates and the club have now drawn up a small shortlist of desired coaches.”
The likelihood of a deal being reached before Wolves take on Chelsea is extremely slim, and James Collins is expected to be in charge.
Edwards reportedly has a release clause at Middlesbrough, so if the former Wolves man shares a desire to make the move, there would be no complications in negotiations with the Championship club.
However, it still remains to be seen whether the Wanderers decide to pay that fee.
The previous link between the club and Edwards could provide an added advantage, as the relationship with supporters in Molineux already exists.
Edwards has also previously worked at Wolves as the under-23s head coach back in 2018.
However, some Wolves fans are not convinced by this potential appointment, but, it could be a shrewd decision by the board should it be confirmed.
Edwards has previous experience of a Premier League relegation battle with Luton, where he managed to take them all the way to the final day of the season.
He was unable to pull off a miraculous finish, but Luton did have some entertaining performances, including missing out on a point against Arsenal due to a 97th-minute winner and a 1-1 home draw with Liverpool.
Two sides who were title challengers that season.
