Wolves fans were rocked earlier this month when Matheus Cunha suffered a ‘significant’ hamstring injury – but the attacker’s recovery has been going very well and today, Gary O’Neil gave a very positive update on the star.
Cunha had been in fine form before going down in the first-half against Brentford.
The Brazilian had scored 11 goals and made seven assists for Wolves across all competitions and had cemented himself as one of the team’s most important players.
So when news came through about his ‘significant’ hamstring injury, fans were understandably gutted.
But seemingly, Cunha’s recovery has been going really well so far and Gary O’Neil has today provided another encouraging update…
Gary O’Neil says Matheus Cunha is back on the grass at Compton after ‘significant’ hamstring injury for Wolves

O’Neil faced the media today ahead of Wolves’ game with Brighton in the FA Cup fifth round on Wednesday.
He has said that he has a fully fit squad barring Cunha, but he did give a pretty positive update on the South American.
He said (via E&S): He’s doing well. He’s been back on the grass and done some light jogging.
“His gym stuff has been going really well and he’ll probably have another scan in the next week or so to check the progress of the healing.
“He’s really upbeat and pleased with how it’s going, but there’s a lot of things that need to be done and go his way to get back as quickly as he’s aiming to.
“So far, so good. No hiccups and everything’s moving in the right direction.”
Cunha return will be huge for Wolves
It is great to hear that Cunha has already been back on the grass doing some light jogging.
The words ‘significant hamstring injury’ were very worrying for Wolves fans, but it sounds as though his recovery has been going really well go far and that he might not actually be out for too much longer – and what a fantastic thing that is given Wolves are now in the hunt for European football.
Indeed, last week O’Neil said that the player had been impressing and surprising the physios, so everything does seem positive with the situation.
It will be a major boost when the £60,000-a-week South American is back available for Wolves again, whenever that may be. Just before his setback, he was probably the most in-form player in Old Gold and arguably one of the most in-form players in the whole Premier League.
