Wolves make bold decision amid Jorge Mendes influence in the boardroom

Wolves have had a nightmare start in the Premier League so far, with huge uncertainty around whether Vitor Pereira is the man to turn it around for a second consecutive season.

The West Midlands outfit began the season at home to Manchester City, with fans not expecting much other than a resilient display against one of the best teams in the league.

However, the Old Gold were dismantled 4-0, and they followed this up with concerning defeats against Bournemouth, Everton, and Newcastle United.

Wolves have made their worst start to a season in 127 years and look set for yet another relegation battle.

Despite the recent poor results, Fosun doesn’t appear ready to make a change in the dugout, signaling their continued backing of Pereira.

New contract talks for Vitor Pereira pushed by Jorge Mendes

Agent Jorge Mendes has been heavily involved at Wolves since Fosun took over in 2016.

Mendes plays a crucial role in recruitment, often selling the Old Gold project to many of his existing clients.

The sentiment towards the agent changed when it was revealed that Mendes had been pushing Newcastle United to sign Jorgen Strand Larsen.

As reported by TalkSport, Wolves want to extend Pereira’s contract talks, despite the club being bottom of the league.

The Portuguese manager is a client of Mendes and therefore this means that there should be no obstacles in these contract talks.

Pereira’s record at Wolves

Pereira joined the club midway through last season and guided them to safety after they found themselves in a relegation battle.

Wolves even went on a remarkable six-game winning streak, despite the absence of key players such as Matheus Cunha.

Despite some signs of improvement, the Old Gold have struggled this season with new signings failing to make an immediate impact at Molineux.

The Portuguese manager hasn’t been blameless either, although Pereira admits he is open to trying something that the fans have been calling for and switching permanently to a 3-5-2 with Larsen and new signing Tolu Arokodare leading the line.

With the board showing backing through new contract talks, Pereira now has the platform to turn Wolves’ fortunes around.
