Wolves-linked Ruben Amorim slammed by Nuno Tavares

Nuno Tavares has slammed Sporting CP head coach Ruben Amorim, who apparently made insults towards Marseille’s players last week.

The 37-year-old, who has recently been linked with the vacancy at Wolves, reacted aggressively after his side’s 4-1 defeat in the Champions League.

Sporting were comfortably beaten in the end.

Former Wolves loanee Francisco Trincao opened the scoring after just one minute played. But Marseille hit back through Alexis Sanchez and Amine Harit.

Goalkeeper Antonio Adan then received a red card, which changed the game.

Marseille would go on to score two more goals through Leonardo Balerdi and Chancel Mbemba.

Amorim cut a frustrated figure during and after the match. Afterwards he accused the French side of lacking humility, with Sporting having turned up late to the match due to heavy traffic (via Brytfmeonline).

After the game, Amorim played down the situation and claims he insulted Marseille’s players, saying (via Mais Futebol): “I will not comment on what has been said. It’s normal stuff during the game. It doesn’t matter, in my view, nothing happened.”

Tavares, who is on loan at Marseille from Arsenal, has slammed Amorim ahead of tonight’s reverse fixture for his behaviour last week.

He said, as quoted RMC Sport (via GFFN): “He says that nothing happened, but he knows very well what he said. If I had any respect for this coach, I no longer have any. But we have to move on, and there will be another game.”

Could Wolves go back in for Ruben Amorim after Julen Lopetegui blow?

Amorim has clearly rubbed Tavares up the wrong way with whatever he said last week.

The 37-year-old is a very talented young coach, and it seems he also has a fiery side.

Perhaps that is something Wolves could do with.

Julen Lopetegui will now not be the next manager at Molineux, after he turned down the job.

It remains to be seen if they will now try and make a play for Amorim. Admittedly, it is very unlikely because he is on a long contract at Sporting.

Part of the appeal with Lopetegui was that there would be no compensation to pay.

Amorim would be very expensive to prise away from the Portuguese club, and he actually recently said that he was happy where he is right now.
