Portugal rounded off their international break with a 3-1 victory over Luxembourg, and last night’s game was particularly interesting from a Wolverhampton Wanderers perspective.

There was representation of Molineux in the form of Ruben Neves starting, and Pedro Neto coming on in the second-half in the World Cup qualifier.

Both players gave good accounts of themselves, with Neto actually providing two assists.

Also featuring for the Euro 2016 winners was Renato Sanches, a man who has recently been linked with a move to Molineux (Calciomercato, November 2020).

The Lille maestro lined up alongside Wolves star Neves in midfield, and produced a fantastic performance.

According to respected Portuguese football site Proxima Jornada, the 23-year-old made three key passes, had 92 touches, completed 67 passes (98% accuracy) and put in four crosses in what was an impressively busy display.

Sanches wowed fans on social media with his performance, and his showing does make it difficult to ignore the idea of him potentially playing at Molineux in a partnership with Neves.

With Joao Moutinho obviously ageing, it is not out of the question that the club could look to find a long-term replacement for him this summer – and Sanches looks like he could be worth a pursuit.

On social media, fans lauded Sanches for his contributions:
