Wolves have tonight learned who their opponents will be in the third round of the FA Cup.
It remains to be seen if Gary O’Neil will actually still be in charge at Molineux by the time the game rolls around because at the moment, he is under big pressure.
The defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday was a major setback for the Wolves manager, who’ll now need a response against Everton on Wednesday.
But O’Neil will certainly hope to still be the Wolves manager when the club’s FA Cup third-round tie takes place.
It seems a very long time ago now, but O’Neil came within minutes of taking Wolves to an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley last season, only for Coventry City to turn the game on its head to win 3-2.
One does wonder how different the current situation might be now, had Wolves actually managed to see that game out to meet Manchester United in the last four.
But Wolves will begin their FA Cup campaign next month, and the draw has been made.
Wolves to face Bristol City in the FA Cup third round

And Wolves will be playing against Championship side Bristol City.
Currently, the Robins are sitting in 11th place in the English second tier, having taken 25 points from their 18 games so far. They’re five points off the play-off places.
Wolves and Bristol City head-to-head |
Wolves wins – 37 |
Draws – 16 |
Bristol City wins – 15 |
Wolves have had 68 meetings with Bristol City to date and have won 37 of those meetings. There have been 16 draws, while City have won 15 games.
The last meeting between the two sides came back in 2019, also in the FA Cup (fifth round), when Ivan Cavaleiro scored in a 1-0 win at Ashton Gate
Third round matches will be played on 11th and 12th of January.
Wolves should attack the FA Cup
While Wolves’ biggest priority this season is to stay in the Premier League, the club should be looking to go deep in the FA Cup this season.
Wolves went out of the competition in heartbreaking fashion last term, and there is a feeling for some that the team need to make amends for that result, after throwing away the chance to go to Wembley.
Wolves will be tested by Bristol City, but have more than enough quality to get the job done.
It just remains to be seen what kind of form Wolves will be in, and also, who will be in the dugout.
