Wolves have learned who they will face in the FA Cup third round.

This season has not offered much hope for Old Gold supporters to cheer, but the magic of the FA Cup could provide some.

At the moment, the Wanderers seem destined for the Championship, with Fosun’s thoughts on next season’s plans revealed already.

However, while this season may end up being one to forget, there could be some magical moments in England’s premier cup competition to provide some memories.

Wolves will face Shrewsbury Town in FA Cup third round

Wolves have had some decent runs in the FA Cup since becoming a Premier League side, including a run to the semi-finals in 2018/2019 and the quarter-finals in 2023/2024.

Last season, they won their first two games against Middlesbrough and then Blackburn Rovers before heartbreak against Bournemouth on penalties.

Additionally, they have won the FA Cup on four occasions, but the last time they lifted the cup was back in 1960.

Now, this season, they begin their FA Cup run with a home tie against League Two side Shrewsbury Town.

Fixture dates are yet to be announced but Wolves’ FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury will be played around the weekend of Saturday 10 January 2026.

This match-up is a local derby, with both sides based in the Midlands. The two also met in the 2018/2019 FA Cup, as the Shrews forced a replay with a 2-2 draw before Nuno Espirito Santo’s side won the replay 3-2.

With the proximity of the two sides, it will no doubt be a tough fixture, as the League Two side will be well up for causing a shock in this Midlands showdown.
