Wolves could be handed a significant boost ahead of their clash with Brentford on Saturday, with one of Gary O’Neil’s stars set to return to the action.
Wolves are back in action on Saturday as Gary O’Neil’s side prepare to host Brentford in the Premier League, and there’s some encouraging team news to report.
After the heroics that the Old Gold showed at Stamford Bridge last weekend to win 4-2 against Chelsea, there is an abundance of positivity radiating through Molineux at present, with things about to get even better.
Having not featured since December’s clash with Everton, O’Neil’s top scorer Hwang Hee-chan could make his return to the squad on Saturday after South Korea’s elimination from the AFC Asian Cup.
What has been said about Hwang Hee-chan ahead of Brentford
It was only yesterday that South Korea were knocked out of the tournament by Jordan in the semi-finals, however, journalist John Percy shared the news that Hwang could be ready to return to domestic football this weekend.
Percy stated that the 28-year-old is “set to be available” for the fixture against Brentford, with the expectation that the forward will today return to the country from Qatar where the tournament is being held.
“Hee Chan Hwang is set to be available for Saturday’s game against Brentford. Hwang is expected back in the UK later today after South Korea’s defeat by Jordan in the Asian Cup semi-final on Tuesday”
The news comes as a huge boost for Wolves, who have been without their top-scorer for the previous six games, although his presence wasn’t missed too badly as his club lost just once during his period of absence.
What Hwang Hee-chan offers to Wolves
With 10 goals this term in the Premier League, Hwang has given O’Neil a lot to rave about since the Englishman took the reins as manager, earning the label of being “incredibly impressive” from his boss.
Analysing the striker’s influence after scoring against Burnley earlier in the season, O’Neil waxed lyrical over the South Korean, explaining his understanding of how he expects Wolves to play in attack.

“It’s no fluke he has as many goals as he has, he’s bought in fully to what we’re trying to do. He arrives in good areas time and time again.”
The manager now has a decision to make over selection, with Matheus Cunha in undroppable form, will a starting place be guaranteed for the Wolves top scorer, or will he have to re-earn his place in the searing front line against Brentford?
No matter the outcome of the debate, it’s a headache that O’Neil will enjoy with having one of his strongest assets back in contention.
