Wolves’ internal feeling about Fabio Silva after £23m summer exit

Fabio Silva’s Wolves transfer did not work out for either party as expected and his time at Molineux came to an end this summer.

The Portuguese striker came to the club in 2020 as their then-record signing in a deal worth £35 million, and the hopes were he would be their front man for years to come.

However, in 72 appearances, Fabio Silva managed to score only five goals for the Old Gold.

Five years on from joining, the forward left the club to join Borussia Dortmund in the summer, with Wolves recouping £23 million in the deal.

Now, Wolves’ stance on Silva’s time and how they feel about his exit has been revealed.

Fabio Silva’s transfer to Borussia Dortmund was a long-winded saga through the summer.

Reports circulated that Wolves kept increasing their price tag for Silva as the German club sent in three bids before a deal was finally agreed.

Sources close to Molineux News have now revealed that Wolves are happy with how they handled Fabio Silva’s exit and time at the club.

“It’s just one of those where it was just right club, wrong time and wished him all the best. They think they handled it quite well, because at one point it looked like you couldn’t give him away really, but obviously they’ve done it well,” one Wolves source said.

“I think they’ve worked with the player to get the right clubs in terms of the loan spells,” they continued.

During his latest loan move, the Portuguese striker scored 10 goals in 24 matches in La Liga for Las Palmas.

Silva also spent time at Anderlecht, PSV and Rangers, but these loans were not quite as fruitful for the 23-year-old.

His time away from the club even made Wolves question whether or not to keep him around at Molineux.

Wolves considered reintegrating Fabio Silva

Silva’s loan spells did make Wolves consider if he could be reintegrated back into the squad.

“I think at some point, there was consideration of ‘could we reintegrate him’?” one Wolves source says.

“But I don’t think that was the right thing and the club knew that. He wasn’t really that keen on staying in the UK, particularly. There were some big clubs in for him and he gets the move to Dortmund and I think they made the best of the situation,” the source later says.

Unfortunately for Silva and Wolves, the move never worked out. The best case scenario was a fresh start for both parties, and that is what turned out to be the case.

Fabio Silva is just 23 years old, and has just made a move to a quality team like Borussia Dortmund, while Wolves have signed Tolu Arokodare as added firepower up top.

Silva will be able to kick-start his career once more under a new setting, and the Old Gold have signed a striker who has proven himself as a goalscorer across the last few seasons.

Both parties will be happy with how the summer turned out in that area.
