Wolves’ interesting plans for Rodrigo Gomes laid out after Porto transfer talk

Wolves are not willing to let Rodrigo Gomes leave this summer under any condition, sources close to Molineux News have explained.

Vitor Pereira’s former club FC Porto showed an interest in signing Gomes this summer, just one year after the 22-year-old arrived from SC Braga.

Though it’s been reported that it would take an ‘irrefutable’ offer for Wolves to sell Gomes, it’s not just a hefty fee that could block a potential move.

Sources close to Molineux News understand that Wolves have a clear plan in place for the 2024 signing, who had an impressive debut season in the Premier League.

Wolves have a clear plan for Rodrigo Gomes

After what Wolves fans saw from Gomes last season, it’s clear to see that the versatile wide player is at the standard needed to play in the Premier League.

The next task for the Portugal U21 international is to become a regular starter in Pereira’s squad, with a lot in store for him at Molineux.

When speaking to Molineux News’ transfer expert Graeme Bailey, it became clear that the idea of Wolves selling Gomes is way off the mark.

“They don’t want to let him go,” Bailey said, before explaining that Gomes isn’t pushing to leave Wolves anytime soon.

“I don’t think he’s pushing particularly; he’s got a big season ahead of him.”

The transfer expert then revealed what Wolves have planned for Gomes, explaining that it’s unlikely that the 22-year-old’s future is at right-wing-back.

“He’s probably not going to play the right-wing-back role, but he’s capable, and I think he’ll play further upfield. Wolves are quite excited by him; they’re not pushing him out of the door for sure.”

It’s interesting to learn that Wolves see Gomes as something other than a wing-back, considering how short the Old Gold are in the position at present.

Wolves’ most valuable players – where Rodrigo Gomes ranks

Selling Gomes right now would make no sense, particularly as Wolves have seen enough from the player to understand where the future could take him.

Even before becoming a starting regular, Gomes is in the top ten most valuable players in the Wolves squad, with his value level with Marshall Munetsi’s.

Given how early Gomes is in his career, and the level he showed in spells last season, Wolves could see their 2024 signing’s value soar over the next few years.

Parting ways with the Portuguese star before his journey has even begun would be foolish, so it’s a relief to know Wolves aren’t giving it any thought.
