Wolves hope to revisit huge 2023 Korean tour plans, with 2024 a possibility

Wolves are believed to now be keen on revisiting the idea of spending the summer of 2024 on tour in Korea, according to Sungmo Lee.

Last summer, Wolves were supposed to spend the pre-season on tour in Korea. The preseason tour represented a massive opportunity for the club commercially and the chance to build the fanbase globally.

However due to what the General manager for marketing and commercial growth Russell Jones described as ‘matters beyond the club’s control’.

The club withdrew in June after ‘numerous financial and logistical obligations’ weren’t met by the tour’s promoter Stadium X/USG.

However, there is now potentially a positive update which could see the plans back on, this time for the Molineux side to be heading in 2024.

Update on Wolves’ preseason plans for 2024

Taking to X with his report, Korean sports journalist Sungmo Lee has claimed that Wolves could very well be looking at going on tour in Korea for the summer of 2024.

“Wolves are re-trying to visit Korea in 2024 summer, after their 2023 Korea tour was unfortunately cancelled. It is not 100% confirmed yet, but the club hopes to make it next summer.”

This would represent a massive commercial boost for Wolves, given the club hasn’t ventured there before in their history.

The tour would have an added impact if it involved taking Korean hero Hee-Chan Hwang with them. The 27-year-old will also be hoping that he will have a new Wolves contract by that point.

On Hwang’s new contract

Sungmo then continued to provide an update on the contract situation of Hwang.

This followed the report last week which suggested the two parties were in talks.

He added: “I understand, at the moment, Wolves’ sporting director is in talks with Hee-chan’s agent. Some clubs are looking at Hee-Chan’s situation, but Wolves are not looking to sell him now.”

Assuming the contract is sorted out, Wolves could see a very successful tour transpire next summer.
