Wolves hero names shock current Molineux player he’d most like to play with, he could be sold

A summer of change is already in full swing at Wolves.

In positive news, Fer Lopez has agreed to join the club for a fee around £20m, Wolves’ first signing of the window.

However, coming off the back of the departures of Matheus Cunha to Manchester United and Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester City, the club still has a lot of work to do if they are to give Vitor Pereira the tools he needs to compete in the Premier League next season.

Interestingly, though, one player who could be on his way out has since been singled out by a former Wolves midfielder as the player he’d most like to have played with during his career.

Simon Osborn names Tommy Doyle as the current Wolves player he’d most like to play with

Between 1995 and 2001, Simon Osborn made 185 appearances for the Old Gold, scoring 14 goals.

Describing himself as a ‘steady eddy’ and ‘one of those players who would consistently be given seven out of ten’, the club’s best finish during the midfielder’s time at the club was third in what is now the Championship in 2001-02.

Speaking to Wolves’ official website more recently, Osborn was asked which of the current team he’d most like to play with.

In response, Osborn said: “In the programme previously, I’ve spoken about my love of Joao Moutinho when he was at Wolves.”

Turning to the current Wolves first-team squad, Osborn added: “The guys that are there now, the Brazilian guys [Joao Gomes and Andre], Tommy Doyle, there’s lots of good midfielders in there now”.

After singling out Doyle, Osborn ultimately named the Englishman as the player he’d most like to have shared the pitch with at Molineux.

Sunderland show interest in Tommy Doyle as the Englishman has big decision to make

Tommy Doyle only joined Wolves from Manchester City in the summer of 2023.

However, after featuring regularly under Gary O’Neil in his first campaign, he saw his minutes cut in 2024/25 as Vitor Pereira opted to go with a midfield pairing of Andre and Joao Gomes.

That has led to rumours circulating about Doyle’s future with Wolves, the 23-year-old seeking more playing time to continue his development.

Sunderland are one club interested in Doyle, with rumours circulating that the Englishman could be used in a potential deal for defender Trai Hume.

Elsewhere, there has been interest from Championship clubs in the midfielder.

It will be sad to see the Manchester City academy product depart, but with his game time likely to be restricted next season as well, it would be the best outcome for all involved.
