Wolves have made fascinating Compton changing room tweak as Vitor Pereira seeks marginal gains

If there’s one thing that has become apparent about Vitor Pereira, it’s that he is extremely passionate about his craft – and that passion and perfectionism bodes very well for Wolves.

The Portuguese arrived at Molineux back in December, tasked with keeping Wanderers in the Premier League.

It was a huge job, with Wolves in a world of trouble at the time.

But Pereira has been a revelation at Wolves so far.

He’s come in and guided Wolves to safety with five games to spare – something that looked absolutely impossible when O’Neil left.

One of the biggest reasons for his success is the fact he got all the players to buy into him immediately.

And there is one small change that’s happened on his watch that just shows he’s all about marginal gains.

A fascinating article about Wolves has been produced by Sky Sports today.

It explores the reasons for Pereira’s success – and it is very clear that he has worked very hard behind the scenes to make his appointment a successful one.

The article states that Wolves now play clips of players’ goal celebrations on the TVs.

Birthday graphics are also displayed when a player is celebrating. Defender Yerson Mosquera is said to have enjoyed this.

Perhaps the most interesting change that has happened behind the scenes at Compton involves the players’ changing room.

It’s stated that the lighting can now be changed, and it is ‘specially designed to shift the body clock for evening games, optimising the wavelength of the light’.

This is something that is apparently backed by science, and brought in by head of performance Phil Hayward. Pereira himself has embraced it.

Wolves are in safe hands with Pereira

Many were sceptical when Pereira was appointed as O’Neil’s successor, given his career path.

But it’s now clear that Wolves have landed firmly on their feet with the 56-year-old.

Vitor Pereira’s record at Wolves so far
Games managed – 22
Wins – 12
Draws – 2
Losses – 8
Goals scored – 36
Goals conceded – 29

It’s very evident that he cares deeply about succeeding at Wolves, and it has not just been about making tactical tweaks.

He is striving for perfection, and trying to make those marginal gains which is fantastic to see.

If backed properly, Pereira – who has impressed with his conduct behind the scenes at Compton – could genuinely bring the good times back to Molineux, the kind that have not been seen or felt since the days of Nuno Espirito Santo.
