Wolves have held talks with ‘world class’ manager to replace Gary O’Neil

Wolves have already held talks with one big name to take over from Gary O’Neil if he is sacked.

O’Neil is under massive pressure at Wolves. A shocking 4-0 defeat to Everton saw the club crash to 19th in the table, three points from safety.

Fans have now turned against O’Neil, as calls for him to be sacked echoed throughout Goodison Park throughout Wednesday night’s game.

However, the Englishman is still in charge of the club and could be in the dugout vs West Ham.

Yet, despite Fosun’s reluctance to pull the trigger, reports have confirmed that they have already held talks with one manager to take over.

With O’Neil’s long-term future looking unlikely, a fan-favourite to take over is fellow Englishman Graham Potter.

The former Chelsea manager has been out of work for 20 months but was widely praised for his role at Brighton with Adam Lallana branding him as ‘world class’.

While it had earlier been reported that Potter was not keen on the Wolves job, it has now been revealed that he had previously held talks over the position.

According to the Daily Mail, Potter held ‘tentative talks’ with Wolves last month over replacing O’Neil.

However, these were far from fruitful. Potter held concerns that Wolves did not have the resources to stay in the Premier League with limited funds available for the January window.

Potential replacements have been assessed since November but the lack of a suitable candidates has kept O’Neil in a job thus far.

Fosun need to change their strategy or sell Wolves

The fact that Potter was slightly interested in the Wolves job to begin is a miracle. The Englishman is one of the best upcoming managers in the country and was hard done by at Chelsea.

Yet, Wolves are prepared to let him go because of the strategy they have in place that clearly does not work.

Since Fosun has implemented this ‘self-sufficient’ model, the club have been in two relegation battles and seen a manager walk out of the door.

Now, they are willing to see Potter likely go to another relegation-threatened team to bring in a cheaper option when O’Neil is inevitably sacked.

If Fosun are not prepared to invest in Wolves then they must sell or they will face widespread backlash when they club is sinking in the Championship.
