Wolves have done something this season that hasn’t been seen in England for 40 years – and it’s chaotic

The 2024/25 campaign has started disastrously for Wolves, who are heading towards a relegation battle.

Gary O’Neil looked to be turning a corner as his squad went four games unbeaten in the Premier League.

Last time at Molineux, the Old Gold were dealt a blow in their hope to extend form as Wolves lost 4-2 to Bournemouth.

Wolves were full of mistakes against the Cherries, who made the hosts pay for their errors, scoring three times from the spot.

Wolves make history with start to 2024/25

There are many reasons why O’Neil could be sacked by Wolves, with nothing quite as daunting as the look of the Premier League table.

The Old Gold sit down in 18th after falling back into the bottom three after losing to Bournemouth.

While the club’s position in the relegation zone after 13 games played is concerning, there are other reasons why some Wolves fans want O’Neil gone.

One of which is the lack of structure and composure in the squad right now, which has actually resulted in O’Neil’s side making Premier League history.

For the first time in 40 years, an English top-flight side has scored more than 20 goals and conceded more than 30 as early as the 13th week of the season, that side is Wolves.

The last team to complete such feat that early was Watford in the 1984/85 campaign, 40 years ago.

It means that Wolves have hit 20+ goals scored and 30+ conceded in the Premier League era in the earliest instance, writing their name into the history books.

The record is not one to celebrate as it only emphasises how chaotic the Old Gold have been this term, scoring freely but leaking goals at an alarming rate.

Wolves topping Premier League charts for the wrong reasons

O’Neil has been criticised for not knowing his best team although, that’s not even the most alarming issue regarding the Englishman’s project.

As seen below, Wolves are marching in the entirely wrong direction this season, being the Premier League leaders in an array of unwanted statistics.

From most goals conceded to most penalties conceded, the Old Gold are lacking control, which is a dire shame considering the amount of talent in the XI.

There are growing calls for Wolves to replace O’Neil at the helm, with it abundantly clear that something has got to give if the Midlands giants are to escape relegation.
