Wolves have a ‘phenomenal’ finisher on their books who is yet to even make his first-team debut

There are some dark clouds forming over Molineux at the moment, with the Wolves first-team struggling.

Gary O’Neil‘s side have had a tough start to the new season and are currently bottom of the Premier League table after five games.

The fixture list was tough. But fans have been concerned seeing the team drop points from winning positions.

There has been frustration about the way Wolves have allowed teams back into games and invited pressure.

O’Neil has got to find a solution soon and start picking up points. His job is reportedly safe for now, but a few more poor results may just change the picture.

But there is at least some positivity around the U21s, and manager James Collins has lavished praised on one of Molineux‘s brightest prospects.

James Collins says young Wolves striker Fletcher Holman is a ‘phenomenal’ finisher

The U21s were in action on Monday night Aggborough, taking on Leeds United in PL2.

It was a comprehensive victory for Collins’ boys, as they won 4-1 on an emphatic night. It was their first victory of the season.

Caden Voice gave Wolves the lead after 10 minutes, following in a saved shot from Dani Angel. Angel, who hit double figures for the U18s last season, then got on the scoresheet himself just before half-time.

Leeds pulled one back from the penalty spot, but Wolves’ two-goal cushion was restored shortly after.

Holman, who had come off the bench, produced a lovely dinked finish over the Leeds goalkeeper after being played in by Leo Lopes.

The scoring was completed on 70 minutes, with Lopes again providing, this time for Tom Edozie to round the ‘keeper.

Collins was pleased with the performance, and he sang the praises of Holman after the game.

He said (via Wolves official): “Fletch (Fletcher Holman) is working so hard on trying to improve his general play, but then his finishing is phenomenal. It’s exciting to see him – he gets near the goal and I think goal, so he’s improving all the time.”

Collins has previously branded Holman ‘a special talent’, and challenged him to improve his tactical discipline.

Holman a young player to look out for

Wolves signed Holman from National League South side Eastbourne Borough back in January and by several accounts, he’s had a bright start to life at Molineux in the academy.

There are high hopes for Holman due to the fact that, before he arrived at Wolves, he had already had some experience of playing senior football.

He made 21 first-team appearances for Eastbourne, and that experience will have aided his development.

Holman’s scored six goals in 13 appearances for the Wolves U21s and does look to be an exciting prospect.

Wolves obviously have some great attacking options right now. But if Holman continues to work hard, who knows – he could get chances like Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome did last season.

Those two mainly played because of injuries to other key players, but if a similar situation happens this term we may just see Holman and his ‘phenomenal’ finishing ability in the first-team.
