There may be some added nerves at Molineux on Monday night with the Premier League’s referee appointment for Wolves vs Manchester United.
Over the last few weeks, the Old Gold have been involved in quite a few controversial decisions, and they will be hoping to avoid that against the Red Devils.
Against Aston Villa, Jorgen Strand Larsen had a goal ruled out for Jhon Arias impeding the opposition goalkeeper from an offside position.
Then just a few days later, fortune would flip, and Wolves would benefit from a similar decision, as Igor Jesus had a goal ruled out for the same reason.
Manchester United will no doubt be a tough clash, and Ruben Amorim may have given Wolves a way to win.
But Rob Edwards will be hoping that the referee and VAR have little impact on the result, particularly after this official had quite a controversial day during a Wolves game before.
With Ruben Amorim worried about set-pieces, how should Rob Edwards set up?👀
Michael Salisbury named as referee for Wolves vs Manchester United

The Premier League have made their referee appointments, and it will be Michael Salisbury officiating proceedings on Monday night.
In total, Salisbury has officiated eight games involving the Wanderers, and the results have been mixed for the Old Gold.
In those games, they have won three times, drawn once, and lost the other four.
| Statistic | Offences by Wolves | Offences against Wolves |
| Appearances | 8 | 8 |
| Fouls per game | 11.38 | 11.13 |
| Fouls/Tackles | 0.53 | 0.75 |
| Penalties per game | 0.25 | 0.38 |
| Yellows per game | 1.88 | 2.63 |
| Total Yellows | 15 | 21 |
| Reds per game | 0.25 | 0.13 |
| Total Reds | 2 | 1 |
Based on past games, Salisbury does seem to be much more lenient for Wolves. He gives fewer fouls per tackle and fewer yellows per game.
However, a match in 2023 will certainly not help ease nerves heading into Monday’s game against Manchester United.
Michael Salisbury was part of controversial Fulham fixture in 2023
In 2023, Michael Salisbury made two controversial decisions against Wolves, and an independent review felt he got those wrong, as per ESPN.
In Fulham 3-2 Wolves back in November 2023, the Cottagers were handed a penalty when Tom Cairney was ruled to have been fouled by Nelson Semedo.
However, the review panel voted 4-1 that the penalty should never have been given.
Wolves fans, do Michael Salisbury’s past decisions influence your confidence heading into Monday’s clash?
To make matters worse, Gary O’Neil also admitted after the game that Salisbury told him he ‘regrets the fact that he wasn’t sent to the screen.’
Additionally, in the 88th minute, Fulham striker Vinicius appeared to headbutt Max Kilman, but the Brazilian escaped punishment.
The panel voted 3-2 in favour of the player having gotten a red card.
Let’s hope it is not a repeat of history on Monday, and the Wanderers are not on the end of yet more VAR controversy.
