Wolverhampton Wanderers finished transfer deadline day without making a single new signing.
Fans started the day very excited about what was potentially in store.
My Revenge On Ben Foster
Links to Renato Sanches caused a big buzz, and many people felt sure that a new central defender would be coming in.
But as the day progressed, nothing was happening.
Wolves seemingly held talks with a number of clubs yesterday with a view to getting players in.
But there was to be no deals for any of Sanches, Sven Botman, Duje Caleta-Car, Boubacar Kamara or Kieffer Moore.
Instead, Morgan Gibbs-White headed out on loan to Sheffield United. And there were a few more loan exits for U23s players.
It means that Bruno Lage has not been granted his wish when he wanted new faces.
He had said (via Express & Star): “We have just two days. We have just 19 players at the moment because Pedro (Neto) is out with injury. We need more. We need more and for the right positions.”
That Wolves did not sign anyone after Hwang Hee-chan, after Lage’s comments, is a surprise and also somewhat concerning.
Despite not getting the results so far, Lage has clearly shown he is worth backing and the board have not done that.
On social media, fans have been dissecting yesterday’s events.
Many feel very frustrated. Some have a lot of sympathy for the new manager, and others are actually a bit worried Lage could end up walking away at some point:
#wwfc Bruno Lage appreciation tweet. The guys been sold a lie. Let’s get behind him and show him how much we support and believe in his approach to the game 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

We are one, maybe two, injuries to key players and we are in a whole world of trouble!
How on Earth are we supposed to compete with 18 professional players?!
Bruno Lage has been sold down the river and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him walk away. I would if it was me.#WWFC

Lage will walk if he isn’t backed surely? #wwfc

Bruno Lage needs to be backed by the club. He wanted 3 – 4 players in this window. Didn’t even scratch it. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the January window.

Still think Neves & Adama would’ve been sold, regardless of replacements if the right bid had been received. Seems to me that Bruno Lage has been put in a very poor position, and not given the players to play the system he wants #wolves #wwfc

Got to feel for Lage who told us he wanted a bigger squad but he’s ended up with an even smaller one to work with #wwfc https://t.co/3QehIetBAf

Don’t really know what to say. Shocking. I’d walk if I was Lage, I really would and I wouldn’t blame him #wwfc
