Wolves fans think they’ve figured out why Jeff Shi has suddenly resigned

All of the Wolves fans’ protestations have finally paid off as Jeff Shi has walked out on his role at Molineux all of a sudden.

Jeff Shi has left the club after nine-and-a-half years, but he will remain chairman and CEO of Fosun Sports Group, the current owners of Wolves.

He joined in July 2016 when Fosun completed its takeover of Wolves and hadn’t left since.

The success of the FA Cup semi-final, two seventh-placed finishes, promotion to the Premier League, and reaching the quarter-finals of the Europa League had fans dreaming.

However, the past few years have seen the club decline.

Relegation is staring Wolves in the face in the worst way possible, with Derby County’s lowest points tally looking like a tall ask to beat at this stage.

But this didn’t matter to Shi, who brushed off the thought of relegation. Stating that it is ‘not serious’.

Now, his departure is a step in the right direction, but the underlying fact is Fosun still own the club.

Wolves fans think the protests were the final straw for Jeff Shi

The Billy Wright stand had the pleasure of a protest right outside of it just a matter of weeks ago, and it seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.

However, Shi spoke out on the act of the Wolves fans, claiming that they should be happier.

Now, Wolves fans believe that Shi’s exit is linked to the constant backlash and protests.

@BG__85 thinks the protest was behind it all.

“Don’t underestimate the power that the protest against Man Utd had on Jeff Shi being sacked. Good on all that took part. It didn’t take long for it to be noticed and action taken. Well done to.”

@bislettfootball was of the same impression.

“Shi has gone. We who pushed his protest await the apologies from those who said that the protests would not work. Great work. @oldgoldpack and Newey. Thank you.”

@MattPrice6 is rather intrigued that Shi has left so suddenly.

“Jeff Shi quite simply fell asleep at the wheel. To give Pereira as much power as he did and sell as many players was criminal. Interesting how quickly the owners caved, literally one protest.”

@JBanks_Cake is over the moon.

“One protest, you know, and they flapped like a flock of seagulls. Get in, Wolves fans, three more protests and we all take it in turns running the club.”

One West Ham fan even called for their supporters to follow suit.

“Shows with supporter protest and movement change is possible. GSBOUT.”
