Wolves fans taunt Matheus Cunha after Man United lose in Europa League final

Wolves fans are preparing to wave goodbye to forward Matheus Cunha.

Cunha is closing in on a move to Manchester United after agreeing personal terms with the Red Devils, becoming one of their marquee signings.

Vitor Pereira dismissed Cunha transfer links when explaining why he was left on the bench against Crystal Palace, but it’s only a matter of time before his move to Old Trafford is finalised.

When fans knew the 25-year-old was eventually going to leave Molineux, they felt he would join a club that would be competing in Europe.

Instead, Cunha will arrive at a United side that could finish below Wolves in the Premier League table and won’t have European football next season.

Wolves fans taunt Matheus Cunha after Manchester United lose in Europa League final

On Thursday night, Manchester United locked horns with Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Bilbao.

With both sides occupying 16th and 17th positions in the Premier League, the importance of either team winning was immense, as it guaranteed Champions League football for the 2025/26 season.

As Cunha is close to completing a transfer to United, Wolves fans unsurprisingly wanted Tottenham to win the Europa League, and their wish was granted with Brennan Johnson’s first half goal.

A 1-0 victory for Spurs followed a flood of posts on X where Wolves supporters taunted Cunha after United lost in the final and fumbled a spot in Europe’s elite competition.

“I hope Cunha has a lovely career at the successful Man United,” one fan sarcastically wrote.

“No European football Cunha well played,” someone else commented.

“I can smell an immense Cunha headloss tonight on Instagram,” a third posted.

“Good luck in the champions league next season MATHEUS CUNHA,” another sarcastically replied while a sixth said: “Cunha is gutted,” accompanied by a laughing emoji.

“Serves you right for Cunha that,” a seventh replied.

Cunha is making the wrong career move

Cunha’s decision-making has to be questioned. Although United remain one of the biggest clubs on the planet, surely he can’t be attracted to a team that can finish as low as 17th and doesn’t have Champions League football.

The whole point of him moving on from Wolves was to play at the highest level, instead, he’s joining a football club that is broken from top to bottom.

Perhaps he’s motivated by the chance of firing United back up the table where they belong, but when he could join a club like Aston Villa, Newcastle United or Nottingham Forest and guarantee playing in Europe, choosing the Red Devils is bizarre.

That being said, he is perfect for one of the number 10 positions in Ruben Amorim’s system, and that could be a decisive factor in his choice.
