Wolves fans spot one major concern about Mateus Mane’s first professional contract

Positive news has been in short supply for Wolves during the summer transfer window so far, creating a scenario that has become very familiar.

Wolves are used to losing their best players, and that trend continued when Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri completed their moves to Manchester United and Manchester City, respectively.

Vitor Pereira has also lost experienced winger Pablo Sarabia, while Tommy Doyle and Nasser Djiga have left on loan.

While that has made the need for additions even more pressing, Wolves have only captured Fer Lopez on a permanent transfer from Celta Vigo.

Encouragingly, though, Wolves have further signings in the pipeline, and they’ve also agreed terms with their brightest young talent.

Wolves fans react after Mateus Mane signs his first professional contract

Portuguese winger Mateus Mane is inarguably the most exciting talent making a name for himself at Compton. Mane made his Premier League debut against Brighton in May after impressing for the under-18s.

The 17-year-old came on in the dying embers to become the club’s youngest Premier League debutant, breaking a record set by Anthony Forde against Chelsea in November 2011.

In June, it then emerged that Wolves had offered Mane a professional contract at Molineux to ward off top-flight interest, and now, the club have announced that he’s signed a two-year deal.

Reacting to this news via X, one supporter simply wrote ‘Starboy’, while another replied: “Cunha replacement sorted.”

Someone else commented: “Hope we get to see what he’s got to offer next season since he’s in Vitor plans. I feel like Chiwome and Fraser never truly had a chance to show off or get many touches on the ball. Couldn’t really make out Mane’s quality from his cameo last season.”

Excitement was the resounding emotion, but some fans pointed out that the length of the deal seemed short, expressing their concerns.

“Is there an option to extend or anything? Seems quite short,” one person said while someone else stated: “2 year deal??? He will go for a cheap fee if someone comes in for him.”

What Vitor Pereira has said about Mane

One man who has always advocated for Mane’s talent and believed in him since minute one is Pereira, and he realises what a wonderful player he is.

As he doesn’t turn 18 until September, the fleet-footed forward has a long career ahead and that is exciting for Wolves after watching him commit his future to the club.

Admittedly, a two-year contract does seem pretty short, but Pereira plans on using Mane in the first team next season, despite his tender age.

“I’m sure he’ll be a surprise in England, in this league,” Pereira said back in May. “He’s a player with talent, and for sure next season he’ll be in the first team with us.

“He’s not only a talent, he’s a worker, and in that moment of the game it was not just to give him the minutes, it was because I think he can do something because he’s special.”
