Wolves fans question ‘hypocrite’ Vitor Pereira after what he said about Emmanuel Agbadou

The drop-off in form for Emmanuel Agbadou is certainly a real concern for Wolves.

The Ivory Coast international arrived at Molineux back in January, and managed to hit he ground running really quickly.

Emmanuel Agbadou established himself in the backline, and after just a few appearances, he scooped Wolves’ Player of the Month award.

More great performances followed and in the end, his efforts went a long way in helping Wolves to survive comfortably.

But this season, it has been a completely different story with Agbadou, who has been at fault for several goals already.

The warning signs were there as early as pre-season, with Agbadou failing to impress.

But fans have watched on as Agbadou’s form has gotten arguably even worse now that the season is actually in progress.

There have been calls for Vitor Pereira to drop Agbadou now, but we know the defender is a big favourite of the manager, so we will see if the Portuguese will take him out of the firing line.

After Saturday’s game, some supporters have taken issue with what Pereira said about Agbadou.

Pereira came to the defence of Agbadou after the defeat to Leeds, in which the defender was at fault for at least one goal.

He said: “Last season Agbadou was one of the best players in our team. He gave us a lot.

“Today, in my opinion, he won every duel and did a lot of good things, but in the end, in our mind, we have one mistake.

“But every time we make a mistake, if I start saying ‘it’s your fault’ and I take their confidence that they need to play, it will be a disaster.”

Some fans don’t accept this defence of Agbadou, with Pereira having had no issue dropping Andre earlier in the season and being critical of him.

@robbowwfc: “This is the same man who’ll drop Andre (one of our best players) any time he drops a 6.5, but allows Agbadou to single handedly derail our season and still doesn’t take him out the team.”

@WolvesinEurope: “He did not have a problem throwing Andre under the bus.”

@stupolak_82: “Singled Andre out didn’t he? Still trying to understand balance 😂”

@808Slates: “Vitor not setting the right tone in the team, constantly dropping Andre, yet Agbadou out of form full of errors plays on each week #WWFC”

@ResevoirJogs: “VP quick enough to hang Andre out but doesn’t wanna criticise Agba.”

Andre being dropped against Bournemouth in only Wolves’ second game came as a real surprise. On that decision, Pereira said publicly: “I spoke with Andre and told him: ‘I know what you can do for us, but it’s time to increase your level’.

“We must deserve things in life. He has to deserve to play in the first XI. We need to work and work hard.”

Pereira cannot persist with Agbadou in this form

It did feel a tad hypocritical of Pereira to defend Agbadou, when only a few weeks ago he did not take the same stance with Andre.

Agbadou’s form is actively costing Wolves in games at the moment, and he simply has to come out of the team while he refocuses and recalibrates.

We’ll see if he gets benched against Everton – if he does not play, then some will say that it was always Pereira’s intention to rest him.

It would be a huge call if he kept the faith with him though, and big risk for Wolves given the form he is currently in.
