Wolves fans have been offering their initial impressions of new signing Nelson Semedo, as the frenetic 2020/21 Premier League season takes a backseat for the first international break.
The Portugal international was Wolves’ penultimate signing this summer, joining from Barcelona for a fee that could reportedly rise as high as £37 million with add-ons (BBC Sport).
The player made the move to Molineux having been in competition for minutes with Sergi Roberto at the Nou Camp, with Sergino Dest joining to add to the competition at the Spanish club.

So far, Semedo has made two appearances in the Premier League for Wolves.
His debut against West Ham United certainly did not go as he’d have hoped, with Wolves producing arguably their worst display under Nuno Espirito Santo.
The 4-0 defeat was awful, but Semedo was nowhere near as bad as some of his teammates in London.
Against Fulham last weekend, the attack-minded star was able to show what he’s all about in glimpses.
He actually probably should have registered his first goal for the club but for a fantastic first-half double save from Alphonse Areola.

He was lively down that right side, but perhaps played a little safer than was needed.
Of course, it is very early doors for Semedo, who is adjusting to an alien formation and still forming connections with his new teammates.
In the eyes of some Wolves supporters on social media, Semedo’s time in a Wolves shirt has been promising so far:

Getting in the right positions and rarely loses the ball but all we need now is for nuno to get him to use his pace so he can go and help defend

You can tell he has a lot of class . Very neat on the ball, Will be a great threat going forward when he settles into the system

can just tell he’s quality

Very classy, retains the ball under pressure then simple pass. Self-assured – shades of Irwin. Interesting to see how quickly he was onto loose ball v Fulham. Only a great save prevented debut goal. Fantasy league? Pity Podence wasn’t on his game. That relationship will blossom

Needs time to adapt his play to the system and develop an understanding with the players around him. Seemed to me like he was trying to make sure he didn’t make any mistakes and so took fewer risks. Hopefully he’ll try and get forward more and not play the simple ball always.

Had some nice touches in the Fulham game, will only get better as the games come, happy so far.

Suspect he’s not the full package just yet, could improve defensively. But very exciting going forward and certainly capable of matching or surpassing Doherty.
