Wolves fans have a lot to say amid Dara O’Shea transfer rumour, they send clear message to Matt Hobbs

Wolves are targeting Dara O’Shea this summer and now, fans have made their thoughts on the centre-back’s price tag known.

It’s been a summer of mixed emotions for Wolves, with stellar business completed early in the window, but little to report since.

Capturing Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen marked an impressive start to the summer but with just nine days to go until deadline day, there is a lot of work yet to be done.

Losing Max Kilman and Pedro Neto has handed Gary O’Neil and Matt Hobbs the task of finding suitable replacements before time runs out.

Despite generating great profit from the two sales, Wolves are operating on a budget, making the latest transfer link rather confusing.

The Old Gold have been credited with an interest in Burnley centre-back Dara O’Shea, something that has caused frustration among supporters.

Fans react as Wolves learn Dara O’Shea’s price tag

As Wolves hunt a new centre-back to bolster the depth in O’Neil’s back line, O’Shea is not the name that some supporters were wanting to hear.

The centre-back signed for Burnley last summer from West Brom in a deal worth £7m, making his price tag this summer even more alarming.

Amid interest from Wolves and Brentford, the Mirror reported that Burnley value their defender at £15m, rousing a lot of reaction from supporters on X.

“£15 million!!! That’s crazy!” one fan said, with another agreeing, “About £10M too much, there has to be better options?”

Referencing Wolves’ tight budget, a supporter highlighted that such fee would stand for “3/4 of our budget,” as a fellow fan said, “That’s enough of a deterrent to pursue elsewhere.”

“Madness – relegated twice and cost 7m last summer. I’m not even sure his passing is better than Toti’s,” a Wolves follower explained, while others also formed comparisons between O’Shea and O’Neil’s current options.

“This would be awful business, he’s not even better than Bueno so what’s the point?” and “No better than our existing options. No thank you.”

Other fans reflected on Wolves’ recent business when looking to bolster their options in central defence, highlighting Nathan Collins’ underwhelming stint at Molineux.

“Last defender we brought from Burnley was a waste of money and was sold the following season.”

Another supporter warned Hobbs of eyeing talent from recently relegated clubs, “Have we not learnt that you can’t keep buying players that have been relegated…they’ve been relegated for a reason!”

Wolves fans want to see a better approach to finances

The nine days leading up to transfer deadline day will be crucial to Wolves and could prove to be decisive in O’Neil’s hopes of improving after his opening season at the club.

Supporters are unhappy with the price Burnley are asking for amid links to O’Shea however, the player’s price tag would be less of a hindrance if the club had managed their finances better in the past.

Wolves are at their limit with PSR, meaning that while spending is necessary this summer, it’s not wise with a thought to the future of the club.

The last thing that supporters want to see is a newly-relegated defender on the horizon sporting a significant price tag, telling of the challenge Wolves must now overcome with their budget.
