Wolves fans have been discussing how they think Fernando Marcal has fared at Molineux in his first few months at the club.

The Brazilian was brought in at the start of September, having just enjoyed a fine run to the 2019/20 Champions League semi-finals with Lyon.

He had caught the eye operating as a left-sided centre-back, but has not taken up that role for Wolves as of yet.

Marcal has made eight first-team appearances so far, starting out as a left wing-back.

In recent weeks Nuno Espirito Santo has tested a more traditional four-man defence with full-backs, and Marcal has looked pretty good.

 

Arguably his best display to date came against Arsenal, with Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer including him in his Team of the Week for his display, branding him ‘solid’.

Arguably, it is in the defensive phase where Marcal has looked at his most effective, with Rayan Ait-Nouri seemingly a more attack-minded option for Nuno.

Marcal’s conservative, no-nonsense style isn’t such a bad thing though given Nelson Semedo likes to maraud forward on the opposite flank.

For the price he was signed for – a reported £1.78 million (BBC Sport) – fans can have few complaints really.
