Wolves fans drop verdicts on Rob Edwards as club seek Vitor Pereira replacement

Wolves are searching for a new manager after the sacking of Vitor Pereira – and Rob Edwards is firmly in contention.

It was reported this morning that Edwards is Wolves’ new top target, after Gary O’Neil dramatically withdrew from the running.

There was a very negative reaction to a potential O’Neil return, and the Englishman is said to have felt that it wasn’t the right time to return. He also ultimately couldn’t agree on working conditions.

So Wolves are still looking for a new man to replace Pereira.

And Middlesbrough boss Edwards is seemingly now in pole position.

Edwards was appointed by Boro ahead of the 2025/26 season, following the sacking of Michael Carrick, and has done a great job so far, guiding the club to second in the Championship.

At the moment, Wolves are in a world of trouble and many fans feel like relegation is inevitable at this point.

But some believe Edwards could be a decent appointment.

It is a huge moment for the football club.

Fosun are facing their biggest decision as owners, with Wolves staring relegation square in the face.

He is a genuine option for Wolves, and we understand that Boro are worried about Wolves’ interest in Edwards.

But there are some fans who have reservations about the club going down this route.

@t_j_mcg: “I’m not convinced by this idea either. Very mixed bag, no real affiliation to us – if that’s what Fosun are trying to do, yes he played for us but not remembered greatly or highly revered. It’s all one big mess, hence the names linked.”

@gricey88: “Such a meh appointment.”

@portchie68: “No better than O’Neil.”

@edwards_47steve: “The bloke who took Luton down”

Rob Edwards would be a major risk

Fosun hiring Edwards would certainly be a major risk.

He is doing well with Middlesbrough right now, but he struggled with Luton Town in the Premier League. That said, the quality of that squad was always going to make survival tough.

It is a huge job for whoever comes in, and it almost feels like – at this moment in time – it would simply be too big for Edwards, who is still relatively inexperienced.

He will likely manage the club at some point.

But it’s questionable whether this would be the right moment for him, with so much to fix and fans so angry. It would be a shame for a popular former figure to get caught up in the mess.
