Wolves fans completely split over free agent signing as Premier League hero suddenly becomes available

Wolves fans are discussing whether Vitor Pereira’s squad could benefit from the signing of one Premier League icon.

Since Wolves signed Fer Lopez, things have gone rather quiet on the transfer front over at Molineux.

Such is to be expected to some degree, as sporting director Matt Hobbs departed, signalling a significant change behind the scenes.

Still, the show must swiftly resume as Pereira has made it clear that he wants new signings, with a lot of work to be done as pre-season fast approaches.

One area that will be strengthened is the attack, with the possibility for a striker to come in following the loss of Matheus Cunha’s goal threat.

Wolves fans debate Callum Wilson free transfer

Wolves don’t have a huge budget, which limits who the Old Gold can realistically consider in a market that is overly inflated.

The free agent market could be a place to hunt for fresh talent, with two proven Premier League players available for nothing.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is available for free, and most recently, it has become apparent that Callum Wilson is also available for transfer.

Wolves fans have made their thoughts on Calvert-Lewin known and have expressed the same sentiments about Wilson, reacting to the news on social media.

“Too old. Too injury-prone,” one Wolves fan said of Wilson, who missed almost 200 days of action due to injury over the 2024/25 calendar.

Concerns over Wilson’s fitness record were echoed by other supporters, who urged Wolves not to consider the 33-year-old.

“He would be if he could stay fit. Injured nearly as much as Calvert Lewin though.”

“No chance too old too injury prone,” another added.

Wolves haven’t been directly linked with Wilson following the news of his Newcastle departure, but that hasn’t stopped fans from passing judgment.

“No thanks. Well, well beyond his sell-by date. A real ’12 appearances, 0 goals’ stench from it.”

A fellow Wolves supporter suggested that while the Englishman would be ‘great’ in the Championship, he’s a figure who could be identified as a ‘spent force’ in the top flight.

“Would be great back at Coventry. Lower his £46k wages and he’d be some player to have. But at PL level, IMO, he’s a spent force.”

Some fans are against the possibility of showing interest in Wilson, but to others, the veteran striker could offer Jorgen Strand Larsen some much-needed support.

“Would be a very decent JSL back up,” one supporter said, as another admitted they’re “Not against it”.

Others were stronger with their opinions regarding what Wolves’ stance on the free agent should be.

“Let’s get Callum Wilson Wolves Keep him fit he would do a top job for us! Don’t mess this up.”

“Would take him all day long,” a fellow fan added.

Does Wilson’s injury record outweigh his scoring record?

Wolves fans are split on whether the Old Gold would benefit from signing Wilson, and the argument is fair.

On one hand, there is a striker with 141 domestic career goals available for free but on the other, there’s a 33-year-old forward who just can’t stay fit.

Since joining Newcastle in 2020, Wilson has missed 114 games for club and country through injury.

Such only emphasises why fans are so split with their opinions, because it was only three seasons ago that Wilson netted 18 Premier League goals for the Magpies.

For a player at the age of 33, do goals outweigh injury? You’d have to say that, for a profile who would be relied on as a backup, the risk is rather large.
