Matheus Cunha is thought to be very close to signing a new contract at Wolves.
The Brazilian has enjoyed a stellar season so far at Molineux, and is a major reason why Wolves are not currently in the relegation zone.
He’s made plenty of significant contributions thus far, and in the eyes of many, Cunha is Wolves’ best player.
Naturally, given how good he’s been, there is interest from several clubs in Cunha, and some had been worried that he could perhaps jump ship this month.
But former manager Gary O’Neil suggested before he was sacked that Cunha wouldn’t be going anywhere in January, and Vitor Pereira has also been vocal about him staying put.
Wolves have been in talks with Cunha over a new contract.
And it has been suggested Cunha has ‘verbally agreed’ a new contract with Wolves, and some more details are starting to emerge about the proposed new deal.
Fans think Wolves have negotiated great new contract for Matheus Cunha

On social media, some fans have been reacting to the claim that Cunha will have a £45 million release clause in his new Wolves contract.
But that clause will only be active if Wolves get relegated from the Premier League.
Should Wolves stay up, then the club are free to demand whatever fee they like over their number 10.
Since Wolves landed Cunha permanently for £44 million in the summer of 2023, the release clause would see the club at least make back what they initially paid.
Fans feel this new contract – which would tie Cunha to the club for another four-and-a-half years – is really good business by Wolves
Proposed new Cunha contract is only fair
It is simply not realistic for Wolves to place a huge release clause in Cunha’s proposed new contract in the event the club suffer relegation.
Cunha is far too good for the Championship and the player is not going to be sticking around if Wolves are playing in that division next season.

It’s only fair that a reasonable release clause is put in place to allow him to leave if Wolves are in the second tier, given how good he is and all he has done at Molineux.
The idea that there will be no release clause if Wolves stay up though is very positive though.
This will allow Wolves to demand a huge fee, and one that better reflects Cunha’s true value. Ideally, Cunha would stay at Molineux. But at least if he is to go despite Wolves staying up, then the club can at least make a huge profit on him.
