Wolves fans can’t help but feel nervous following new claim about Joao Gomes

Joao Gomes is a hugely popular figure at Wolves, but fans have expressed their concern following a new claim about the midfielder.

It has been a disastrous season for Wolves, and the frustration – and even anguish – from Joao Gomes this term has been clear to see.

The South American star is a player who deeply cares about the club, and has done pretty much since the moment he arrived.

Joao Gomes has never hidden his love for the Wolves fans

“I love being here and I love playing for you.” – Joao Gomes, after winning Supporters’ Player of the Season for Wolves in 2024/25

He gives his all every single time he steps out onto the pitch for the Old Gold, and for that reason Gomes is potentially the most popular Wolves player with the fans.

He hasn’t been at his best this season. But he remains a top player who Wolves desperately need.

But in recent days, there has been some transfer talk about Gomes, who is wanted by Manchester United.

And fans have been discussing Gomes’ immediate future following a new claim about him.

Joao Gomes is a superb player, and it’s little wonder he is coveted by other clubs.

One such club is Manchester United, who are seeking a top midfielder to replace Casemiro for the long term.

They’re looking at several players, but the likes of Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson will likely be a lot more expensive.

It’s been boldly claimed Gomes could be worth around £44 million, which may appeal much more to United, and it’s also been suggested that Gomes would not rule out a move to Old Trafford.

On social media, it’s safe to say that some fans are concerned he could go.

@MolineuxExpress: “The toxicity on Wolves Twitter if Joao Gomes is replaced by Kalvin Phillips in this current Wolves team is going to be absolutely crazy.”

@dianebarrow: “£44 million is a joke, he is the heart of the team.”

@eastparkwolves: “Can see this one happening, and we’ll replace him with Kalvin Phillips.”

@simjohno: “£44m 😐”

@Rob_KICBOSS: “Here we go… the great sell off. Expect Free transfers to replace international players.”

It is understandable that fans are concerned over these reports about Gomes.

He is one of Wolves’ most important players, and offloading him in the next season, given how perilous the situation is, would be basically giving up the fight against relegation.

Wolves need fighters right now and no one is more of a fighter than Gomes.

How much is Joao Gomes worth in today’s market?

Every player in the squad needs to be getting behind Edwards and pulling in the same direction, and Gomes needs to be at the very front of proceedings, not being sold by the club.

Thankfully though, it was claimed this week that Wolves have actually promised Edwards that Gomes won’t be sold.

Let’s just hope that Molineux officials stick to that promise in the event of a big offer coming in.
