Wolves’ misery continued on Saturday with a 2-0 defeat to Brentford – and Matt Doherty made some interesting comments after the game.
The Old Gold remain stuck on two points, with Keane Lewis-Potter’s brace the difference at Molineux.
It is now 10 straight league defeats for Wolves, and still no win in the competition this season, or since April 2025.
Wolves fans, genuinely, how worried are you now about Derby’s 07/08 points record (11)?
The Old Gold have equalled the lowest ever PL points haul at Christmas… 🥴
Rob Edwards has lost all six of the games he has taken, with some fans now starting to question the manager.
Edwards was hired for the long term, but many are arguing he has actually made the team worse than it was when Vitor Pereira was in charge.
Saturday’s loss to Brentford was dismal, and after the game Matt Doherty made some interesting remarks.
But they have been lapped up by fans on social media.

Wolves fans praise Matt Doherty after comments about cowardice

While there is anger towards Fosun for this mess, Wolves fans have been furious with the players in recent weeks.
It has felt as though the effort on the pitch has not matched the level of support, with many feeling some have given up.
Some even believe some of the players are now waiting for January to come around so they can jump ship to another club.
“This is a notion Doherty referenced in his interview. He said: We need to do some soul searching and have a look in the mirror and just figure out what we want to be remembered for at the club.
“Do we want to be remembered for fighting all the way to the end of season, or do we want to be remembered for being cowards and taking the easy option, maybe trying to leave in January, or not fighting and training, and letting other people take your position?
“We need to look at ourselves in the mirror and figure out how we want to be remembered at the club.”
On social media, fans have backed Doherty, with many feeling he truly cares and does not deserve to be experiencing this situation.
What do you make of Matt Doherty’s post-Brentford remarks? 🤔
It was an emotionally-charged interview…
@hondo_85_: “Matt’s the one player I don’t think has to worry about how he will be remembered at the club, he’s been here through the highs and lows of everything and always gave his all. Yes he once had his head turned but he now realises grass isn’t always greener keep fighting Matt.”
@corbettjr80: “Will always give his all for this club, he knows what it means. Good on him for saying what he did, I’d rather have 11 Docs in this team than what we’ve got at present, at least he fights for the shirt.”
@dianebarrow: “Gutted for Doc today, a good honest player that will never give up and has been absolutely honest in his interview 🐺🧡”
@nljones02: “Fair play. 100% a few out there today didn’t care in the slightest. Start the boys that want to fight for the badge.”
@Wwfc2429961: “That’s a captain’s interview for you, honest and brutal. If only we had more characters like that in the squad.
@darbayit: “Matt Doherty does not deserve to be associated with this current shower #wwfc.”
@_liama_: “Really think we ought to loan out doc in Jan so that this ain’t on his record. He don’t deserve this.”
Well said Matt Doherty
Doherty’s comments were always likely to strike a chord with the fans.
For weeks now it’s looked like a lot of those players have checked out – and this is unacceptable.
Yes, the likelihood is that Wolves are going down. But it is an insult to the fans to down tools, and those who have already concerned themselves with moving on in January should be ashamed.

Doherty himself has been below par this season. But there is little doubt that this man cares about this club, and this interview is a great reflection of his character.
If Wolves had more leaders like him, the situation might not be as bad as it currently is.
