Wolves fans are all saying the same thing about Vitor Pereira after finally announcing him as new manager

Vitor Pereira was announced as the new manager of Wolves on Thursday afternoon, with the fans now having their say on the appointment.

Pereira was instantly eyed as the successor to Gary O’Neil after the Englishman was finally sacked following a 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town.

The Portuguese boss arrives from Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab, where he enjoyed a successful period from February onwards by winning 53% of his matches.

Wolves will be hoping for a similar win percentage in the second half of the season as they aim to climb out of the relegation zone.

Pereira, who has penned an 18-month contract at Wolves, will be in the dugout for their relegation six-pointer against Leicester City on Sunday.

Wolves fans react to Vitor Pereira’s managerial appointment

After being announced by Wolves, Pereira is arguably taking the biggest job of his career so far, as he aims to drag the Wanderers to Premier League safety.

They’re currently cemented in the drop zone by five points and Gary Neville has backed Wolves to be relegated, despite the appointment of the Portuguese.

It’s going to be a huge challenge for the experienced manager to keep Wolves in the top flight, with the fans now getting behind the new boss after his appointment.

One supporter said: “Time to start moving up the table, welcome to the new Wolf in the pack, let’s go Vitor.”

“Christmas has come early. No, let’s hope a couple of centre-backs and an attacker are on Santa’s list too!” another fan exclaimed while also calling for the club to be active in the transfer window.

“Welcome Vitor Now let’s get behind him and be the 12th man- see if he can perform a miracle,” a third replied.

“We just need to focus on bailing the basics & getting the team back together as a team We can escape relegation this year,” another responded.

“Good luck, fella,” a sixth added.

“Best wishes and good luck Vitor! Right behind you,” a seventh commented.

Pereira must galvanise the Wolves dressing room

Pereira inherits a Wolves squad with a fractured and losing mentality. Towards the end of the O’Neil tenure, Mario Lemina was stripped of his captaincy after his scuffle at West Ham.

Rayan Ait-Nouri was then sent off after the full-time against Ipswich Town while Matheus Cunha faces a ban from the FA for ripping the glasses off an Ipswich security guard.

The players’ petty actions were a reflection of themselves and their anger but also the fact O’Neil had lost the dressing room.

Supporters will now hope that Pereira’s arrival can inspire a winning mentality among the players and a change in attitude.

Pereira’s January transfer plans will help matters, as he aims to bring in two quality defenders who can help make them more solid at the back.

Meanwhile, he will also want to use his exciting, pressing style to keep the Old Gold free-scoring in the final third – and finding such a balance could be key to survival.
