Wolves fans were blown away by the performance of Rodrigo Gomes against RB Leipzig.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, Wolves concluded their US pre-season tour with a win against RB Leipzig.
The Champions League outfit were no match for Gary O’Neil’s side, who won 3-0 against the Bundesliga team.
A Pablo Sarabia brace and a third goal of the tour for Rodrigo Gomes secured an impressive victory for the Old Gold.
Now, O’Neil’s side will return to Molineux to end their pre-season festivities against Rayo Vallecano as the Premier League opener versus Arsenal fast approaches.
All in all, there have been plenty of positives for the manager to take from Wolves’ time in the United States, with not many players as impressive as summer arrival Gomes.
Rodrigo Gomes impressed Wolves fans in pre-season win against RB Leipzig
It’s been a pre-season of dreams for Gomes, who signed for Wolves from Braga following a stellar loan spell at Estoril.
The 21-year-old arrived as a fairly unknown starlet and has since become one of the most exciting players to watch in O’Neil’s attack.
Gomes netted three goals in three appearances in the States, with his performance against RB Leipzig prompting fans to sing his praises on X.
One supporter backed the summer signing to replicate the threat of Pedro Neto, “Rodrigo Gomes is the new Neto man.. could actually be scary if Neto stays as well,” as another agreed by saying, “Gomes on the left, Neto on the right and Cunha in the middle behind Larsen would be horrible to defend.”
After seeing how Gomes operated on the left flank to accommodate Neto’s return to the squad, fans were given an insight into what they could see in the near future.
One fan said, “Rodrigo Gomes is Wolves’ starting left winger,” as another branded the 21-year-old as “insane” for his performance.
The Portuguese winger showcased what he can offer to O’Neil’s side, as one follower of Wolves praised his crossing ability, “Rodrigo Gomes looks cracking, brilliant pinpoint crossing.”
Another echoed the high opinion of Gomes by saying, “Rodrigo Gomes is brilliant, we are winning the lot.”
Looking towards the opening day trip to the Emirates, a supporter called on O’Neil to start Gomes against Arsenal.
“This pre season couldn’t of gone any better for Rodrigo Gomes, O’Neil has to consider starting him first game.”
It would be a surprise to not see Gomes start against Arsenal
Given how impressive Gomes has been throughout pre-season following his arrival, the 21-year-old is surely in line to start against Arsenal.
Aside from his goals in friendlies, the winger has been praised numerous times for his ability to make things happen, with his work rate a huge plus.
