Wolves fans all in agreement about one thing after pre-season friendly defeat to Crystal Palace

Wolves fans are all saying the same thing after suffering pre-season defeat to Crystal Palace in the United States.

Gary O’Neil’s side had their unbeaten start to pre-season ended by Crystal Palace, who beat Wolves 3-1 in the United States.

Goals from Jeffrey Schlupp, Jordan Ayew and Asher Agbinone led the Eagles to the win, with Santi Bueno’s 90th minute goal merely a consolation.

The manager fielded a side patched together with a mix of senior players, new arrivals and youngsters, with plenty to take from the fixture ahead of the upcoming season.

New signings Jorgen Strand Larsen, Pedro Lima and Rodrigo Gomes were involved once more, giving fans the chance to assess the trio in the early stages of their Wolves career.

While a lot of the attention was on how the rarely-seen players fared against Premier League opposition, there was something else that caught the eyes of Wolves fans.

Wolves fans in agreement about the goalkeepers in Crystal Palace pre-season defeat

Despite the result, there were in fact plenty of positives to take from the friendly, as Wolves had chances to score throughout.

Unfortunately, the game was overshadowed by the lack of quality shown by both of the goalkeepers who featured for O’Neil’s side.

Arsenal linked Dan Bentley started the game, with the headline of his appearance decided as Schlupp capitalised on his error.

The second-choice ‘keeper ran out of the box to attempt to win the ball however, he came off short and was eventually caught out by Schlupp’s long-distance shot.

In the second half things didn’t get better for Wolves’ ‘keepers, as Tom King saw Ayew’s shot go between his legs for Palace’s second, which fans were quick to react to on X.

One supporter reacted to the full-time result by saying, “Please sign another goalkeeper”, an opinion shared by another, “Get us a competent GK, please!!!!”

Fans continued to fume over the performances between the sticks, as one said, “Not a lot we can do when a goalkeepers forget to do a basic job.”

Jose Sa returned to the squad after his extended break following Euro 2024 however, the Portugal international didn’t feature against Palace.

One supporter missed his presence, “Jose Sa where are you?” with another prompting O’Neil to bolster his squad, “Sign defenders and a good goalkeeper or you will suffer this season.”

Fans agreed that the lack of quality in Wolves’ goalkeeper depth needs to be addressed, “Game of two halves, looked a bit lagged 2nd half, 2nd & 3rd choice keepers need re evaluating on those performances…”

Another said, “We need a new GK and defender ASAP”, with another saying, “Please sell Tom King.”

Wolves must sign a new goalkeeper before deadline day

Fortunately, the game was merely a pre-season friendly however, O’Neil may not be able to ignore the gap in quality between Sa and his positional partners.

There could be an opportunity for the manager to explore the market for goalkeepers, as Arsenal have attempted to sign Bentley this summer.

If the Englishman was to make the move to North London, it’s almost certain that Wolves would bring in a new face, something that many fans would clearly like to see.
