Wolves fans accuse Matheus Cunha of ‘digging a massive hole’ with what he just did

Matheus Cunha is responsible for some real highs at Wolves this season but, the Brazilian is also to blame for some lows.

What could’ve ended in progressing to the FA Cup quarter-final instead ended in a nightmare as Wolves lost to Bournemouth on penalties.

Losing the shoot-out at the Vitality was the least of Vitor Pereira’s concerns as Cunha was sent off, subsequently collecting a three-match ban.

Wolves’ star player failed to control his emotions in the 120th minute of play, falling horrendously at the final hurdle as he lashed out at Milos Kerkez.

Cunha admitted that he lost his head in the ugly scenes at the end of the contest but, it wasn’t the first time fans have seen the 25-year-old act in such a way this season.

As a result, some fans have lost trust in the former Atletico Madrid man as, despite his quality, his discipline has been unacceptable.

Wolves fans fume at Matheus Cunha’s social media post

Since the incident, the forward has been active on social media, which landed him in hot water with some fans.

Wolves supporters took aim at Cunha for posting his goal against Bournemouth after being sent off, with many calling for a different approach from the player.

Unfortunately, the Brazilian’s social media activity caused some unsettlement among fans once again, as Cunha posted a photo of a letter from a fan on his Instagram story.

The Wolves star captioned the post, “To the true fans, thank you for these moments. Your recognition and love motivates me more.”

Some weren’t happy with Cunha’s description of ‘true fans’ and aired their frustration on X.

“Thinks he’s bigger than the club mate! ‘True fans’ digging a massive hole he is that he won’t claw himself out of,” a furious supporter said.

“To the “True” fans. Joker,” another wrote, with many sharing the opinion that Cunha overstepped the mark with his post on social media amid his suspension.

The driving force behind reaction of Cunha’s Instagram message was frustration regarding how the forward acted at Bournemouth, which could prove to be extremely costly to Wolves.

“Only a true fan if you approve your players head butting an opponent and behaving like a child apparently…..Getting too big for his boots now.”

Another supporter agreed by saying, “I don’t get what he’s trying to say…we’re not ‘true fans’ because we weren’t happy with him doing what he did?? We’re Wolves fans not Matheus Cunha fans.”

“To the TRUE fans you know. Cunha please,” a Wolves fan pleaded, as others raised the point of all supporters following the club rather than one player.

“I’m a true fan Cunha and you let me and 1000s of other true fans down. We’ve been supporting WOLVES all our lives, long before you came, and will continue to support WOLVES long after you’ve gone. So just wind yourself in and show some remorse, idiot!”

Mixed opinions on Cunha after Bournemouth incident

Wolves can’t, and don’t, deny the quality that Cunha brings to Pereira’s front line but, many are understandably unhappy with the forward’s recent behaviour.

It was only in December that the Brazilian picked up an FA ban for how he conducted himself after the game against Ipswich, where the 25-year-old was seen pushing a member of the opposition’s coaching staff in the face.

Following that incident, Cunha was blasted for not learning his lesson, with his absence set to be costly for the Old Gold.

The forward has contributed heavily to the goals at Molineux this season, giving Pereira an uphill battle to climb in the next three games without him.
