Former Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards spotted one transfer warning during the Old Gold’s defeat to Arsenal.
Matchday 23 of the Premier League season saw Wolves lose for the fourth consecutive game, pushing Vitor Pereira’s side back into the bottom three.
Arsenal beat Wolves 1-0 to hand the Old Gold their 15th defeat of the 2024/25 campaign, putting real pressure on the fight for survival.
The January transfer window is growing in importance amid Wolves’ struggles, as Pereira admitted he wants more signings following the capture of Emmanuel Agbadou.

Dave Edwards says Wolves badly need to sign a midfielder
Right now, Wolves are working to sign Kevin Danso in order to bolster at the back, with central defence being a real weak point in the squad.
While another defender is desperately needed, there’s an argument to suggest that Pereira needs a midfielder more.
Wolves tried to sign Manu Silva, who was a top midfield target to hand the manager the defensive profile he’s demanding in the middle but, it wasn’t meant to be.
After missing out on Silva, attention has returned to signing a centre-back, which concerns former Wolves player Dave Edwards, who noticed the importance of recruiting another midfielder this month, via Express and Star.
“It was disappointing that we weren’t able to open Arsenal up and then the killer moment was Joao Gomes’ red card. I think if Vitor Pereira had another midfielder in the building that he really trusted in that midfield two, he would have made a change at half-time.”
Pereira was criticised for not substituting Joao Gomes, resulting in the Brazilian carelessly being sent off against Arsenal, leading to the Gunners breaking the deadlock moments after.
Edwards felt for Pereira in that moment, as he predicted why the Wolves manager kept Gomes on despite his reckless nature on a booking.
“Instead, he preferred to keep Gomes out there on a tightrope over Tommy Doyle and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and it backfired on us massively, which changed the game in an instant.”
Pereira wasn’t happy with how Gomes conducted himself, blaming the Brazilian for the game collapsing, making it even clearer that another player of his profile is required.
Vitor Pereira is clearly unhappy with Wolves’ midfield options
Edwards continued by suggesting that it’s ‘quite obvious’ that Pereira doesn’t trust the likes of Tommy Doyle and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde in the holding role.
“They have to bring in another midfielder to complement what Joao Gomes and Andre do. It’s quite obvious that Vitor Pereira doesn’t see Doyle and Bellegarde as options in that two, unless he really has to.”

Pereira has already said that he wants to sign two midfielders this winter but right now, it remains to be seen if Wolves will manage to sign one.
As well as the boss, Edwards has previously urged Wolves to sign a midfielder, with the demand not going away as the transfer window ticks by.
Matters are not made any easier by the transfer saga following Mario Lemina, who looks set to leave the club this month.
Time is flying by and pressure is mounting on Wolves’ hierarchy to deliver Pereira the midfield acquisitions he so desperately needs.
