Wolves expected to confirm second appointment from Middlesbrough after Rob Edwards

Rob Edwards may not be the only individual leaving Middlesbrough for Wolves.

It has been a big weekend for the Old Gold in their mission to replace Vitor Pereira, who was sacked last weekend after the defeat to Fulham.

Gary O’Neil had been Wolves’ first choice.

But O’Neil withdrew from the process to be Wolves’ new manager at the start of the week, and the club then turned their attention to Edwards.

Edwards publicly dismissed speculation about Wolves on two occasions. But on Saturday, Wolves reached an agreement to land Edwards, after he was stood down by Middlesbrough for their game with Birmingham City.

Edwards is expected to be announced as Wolves’ new manager on Monday – and it looks like one of his coaches from Boro will be following him.

Edwards’ exit from Boro has not gone down at all well with their fans.

Obviously Edwards only signed a three-year contract at the Riverside Stadium after replacing the sacked Michael Carrick, and now he is already leaving.

It has been a kick in the teeth for Boro fans to see Edwards depart after the great few months he had and the Northern Echo have now provided some more details about the situation.

They say that Harry Watling, who jointly managed the team on Saturday in Edwards’ absence, is also now expected to head to Molineux.

But Adi Viveash will be staying at Boro and is expected to oversee an interim period as they search for a new manager.

Molineux News has been told there is a chance that Joleon Lescott could join Edwards’ coaching staff.

Who is Harry Watling?

London-born Harry Watling became a coach at the tender age of 15, and worked hard to earn his badges. By the age of 18, he already had his UEFA B Licence.

He then joined Chelsea as a development centre coach, before working in their academy.

He spent five years at Chelsea, before then having four years at Millwall, coaching the U15s and 16s.

After a stint at West Ham United, Watling then had his first taste of being a first-team head coach, at Hartford Athletic over in the United States in 2020.

In 2022, he then joined QPR as a first-team development coach, before moving to Scottish giants Rangers.

Watling also managed National League club Ebbsfleet United, but only had a brief stint before leaving by mutual consent.

He is now set to follow Edwards, and will hopefully be able to assist him in getting a tune out of a beleaguered bunch of players.
