Wolves duo must be fuming after what new Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti has just done

Wolves have enjoyed a brilliant 2025 by and large, but Carlo Ancelotti appears not to have seen it that way.

Wolves secured their Premier League safety for 2025/26 weeks ago, and ultimately finished 16th in the table.

Vitor Pereira made a tremendous impact after succeeding Gary O’Neil, and fans are excited about where he could the team next term.

Andy Thompson says there’s no reason Wolves can’t win a trophy or push for Europe, and optimism is high after the Portuguese completely changed the picture at the club.

One big reason why Wolves improved so much in the second half of the season was because Joao Gomes and Andre really kicked on under Pereira.

The Brazilian pair in midfield have stood out in several games since the turn of the year, delighting Wolves fans with their blossoming partnership.

However, their efforts were not enough in the eyes of new Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Joao Gomes and Andre are an extremely exciting part of Wolves’ team.

They have only really been playing regular together as a pairing since the start of 2025, but they already look like a formidable duo in Wolves’ engine room.

It’s been clear to see from behind-the-scenes content that they have a close bond, which is allowing them to shine together for Wolves on the pitch.

But despite them both playing so well in the last few months, and making huge contributions to Wolves’ safety mission, neither player has received a call-up to the Brazil squad from Carlo Ancelotti.

Joao Gomes was named Supporters’ Player of the Season at Wolves, which makes his omission strange.

And Andre has been branded one of the best number sixes in the Premier League, and he will be disappointed to miss out.

The midfielders called up by Ancelotti this time around are Andreas Pereira, Bruno Guimaraes, Andrey Santos, Casemiro, Ederson and Gerson.

Brazil have two World Cup qualifying games coming up against Ecuador and Paraguay next month, but Ancelotti won’t be calling on the Wolves pair.

Matheus Cunha – who is on the verge of completing a move to Manchester United – has been called up though.

Harsh on Gomes and Andre

It is not uncommon for players who’ve been making national team squads regularly to then be left out when a new manager comes on the scene.

Ancelotti cannot have watched too much of Wolves this season, given he’s been busy managing Real Madrid.

But this is still disappointing, because both of these players have been integral for Wolves and played big parts in the club’s successful safety mission.

Hopefully this will not become a regular occurrence.

The last thing that needs to happen is Andre and Gomes both get the feeling that their international prospects could improve if they left Molineux.
