Wolves currently ‘working on’ new signings as Gary O’Neil sheds light on transfer targets

Gary O’Neil has provided an update on where Wolves are currently at in the transfer market ahead of Saturday’s trip to Arsenal.

Wolves head to the Emirates for the opening game of their Premier League campaign as a tough test awaits, with Chris Sutton predicting the Old Gold to comfortably lose against the Gunners.

Gary O’Neil has however, been buoyed by the news that Wolves star man Matheus Cunha is fit and raring to go for the match after previously being a doubt through injury.

This serves as a huge boost to O’Neil, who will be hoping his talented Brazilian will inspire an upset at the Emirates, having failed to win there since November 2020.

Supporters will be excited about the new season kicking off, with O’Neil now fuelling that excitement after supplying an update on their transfer business.

Gary O’Neil offers an update on Wolves transfer targets

Wolves have made four new signings this summer, landing Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen while making Tommy Doyle’s loan permanent.

It was a promising start to the summer but that has since followed the departure of Max Kilman to West Ham and Pedro Neto’s £54 million move to Chelsea.

The Wanderers now need replacements for their captain and star winger, at the very least, before the transfer window slams shut on August 30th.

Luckily, it has been recognised that this is the case. In his pre-match press conference, as per journalist Liam Keen, O’Neil has revealed that the club have identified targets which are currently being ‘worked on’.

O’Neil said: “Myself and Matt Hobbs have worked hard on identifying (targets) and it’s still being worked on. I don’t really like talking about what might or might not happen but we have realistic targets and hopefully they will arrive before the end of the window.”

Wolves are hopeful of landing their targets before the window slams shut and how they replace Kilman and Neto could determine how well they do this season.

Wolves looking at Brentford’s Yoane Wissa to replace Pedro Neto

O’Neil claims that the club are looking at ‘realistic targets’ to replace Neto this summer and one of those could be Brentford’s Yoane Wissa.

It was revealed by Paul McGrath on Wednesday that Wolves are ‘looking at’ Wissa, who scored 12 Premier League goals last term.

The 27-year-old sees his contract expire in 2026 and if the Wanderers do submit an offer for the Democratic Republic of Congo international, this will give the Bees a decision to make on his future.

Interestingly, the forward’s tally of 12 top-flight goals last term was more than the number Neto managed in his entire Premier League career, which is telling of his threat in the final third.

While the Portuguese superstar was a creative machine for Wolves, Wissa is a clinical finisher in attack and could supply O’Neil’s men with an extra cutting edge.

Time will tell as to whether Wissa is their primary target in attack and what sort of money Fosun must stump up to land him.
