Wolves currently on course for an embarrassing Premier League record after Brighton draw

Wolves’ season is reaching boiling point as they are still without a win in the Premier League.

They have been so close to getting three points over the line in their last two matches, but two late goals from Brighton and Tottenham have left them reeling.

Mood is low at the club, and the scenes at full-time against Brighton worried Conor Coady.

Now, this latest comparison could cause even more concern, as Vitor Pereira’s side are on course for a record nobody wants to have.

Derby County had the worst Premier League season of all time.

The Rams ended the 2007/2008 campaign with just 11 points from 38 games. However, they actually had a better start to that season than the Old Gold have had this year.

In that infamous season, Derby had four points after the opening seven games. By comparison, Wolves have just two now.

The idea of Wolves either matching or doing worse than that Derby side is no doubt an embarrassing thought.

However, the Wolves squad still has a lot of quality to prevent such a thing from happening.

Marshall Munetsi hailed an exceptional player against Brighton, and Spaniard Hugo Bueno says just one thing needs to change to win games.

In particular, one player whom the club managed to keep in the summer can offer a lot of solace for fans.

Wolves have much more quality than Derby had

In 2007/2008, Derby County’s top goalscorer had just four goals. That man was former Wolves player Kenny Miller, who spent five years in the Old Gold.

Vitor Pereira has a man in Jorgen Strand Larsen who has proven himself as a top Premier League player. Larsen scored 14 goals in the league last season.

This was a record for a debut season for a Wolves player, beating Raul Jimenez, who scored 13 in 2018/2019.

The Old Gold need to get Strand Larsen firing. The Norwegian has been dealing with an achilles’ issue and is yet to reach 100 per cent fitness.

While the quality of the squad might be weaker than the previous campaign, it is still much better than that Derby team.

Vitor Pereira has the tools to turn things around, but he has to do it sooner rather than later. The longer Wolves go without a win, the harder it will be to boost confidence.
