Wolves will reportedly consider making a move for Gary O’Neil if Julen Lopetegui leaves the club.
The Spaniard has cut a frustrated figure this summer.
The 56-year-old learned earlier this year that Wolves have financial problems, and those issues have served as a real hindrance in the transfer market.
Lopetegui didn’t know about these issues when he first came to the club.
He spoke about them after the 2022/23 season ended.
And just recently, Lopetegui reiterated his frustrations about the situation via an interview with Guillem Balague.
Last week, it was reported that Wanderers may find themselves in a position where they need to replace Lopetegui.
And now, it’s been suggested O’Neil could be an option.
Wolves could turn to Gary O’Neil if Julen Lopetegui leaves
talkSPORT are reporting this evening that Wolves could make a beeline for O’Neil if Lopetegui quits.

O’Neil drew plenty of praise earlier this year for the superb job he did at AFC Bournemouth.
O’Neil took over from Scott Parker in November, and ended up guiding the club to a 15th-placed finish. The Cherries finished just two points behind Wolves.
Despite keeping the club in the Premier League, O’Neil was ruthlessly sacked in June.
But he seemingly has admirers in Wolves.
It now remains to be seen what happens with Lopetegui.
Lopetegui leaving now would be devastating
Lopetegui has not been shy in saying how he feels about the current situation at Molineux.
He is not happy, and he cannot really be blamed.
He’s a top-class coach and, seemingly, the goalposts have been shifted.

Wolves fans would really like to hope that he won’t walk away. But if no other players come into the club before the transfer deadline then it’s very possible that could happen.
O’Neil did a great job at Bournemouth, but he would obviously be a major downgrade on the Spaniard.
