Wolves confirm yet another injury blow ahead of facing Manchester United

Next up for Wolves is another tricky test as they host Manchester United at Molineux on Monday, and Rob Edwards has already issued some worrying team news.

The Old Gold have had quite a few issues within their squad over the last few weeks. Matt Doherty missed out on Wolves’ last three games, Rodrigo Gomes is out for a few months still, and Ladislav Krejci has been missing from the squad since Sunday due to a knee problem.

With the Wanderers desperate to get a win under their belt, the last thing they needed was more concerns.

However, in his press conference ahead of playing Manchester United, Rob Edwards has confirmed another blow.

Rob Edwards issues worrying update on Marshall Munetsi

Marshall Munetsi was brought on as an 85th-minute substitute against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday, but the Zimbabwean left the field not long after due to injury.

The midfielder was Rob Edwards’ last change, and that meant the Old Gold had to play with ten men for the dying moments of the fixture.

Ahead of facing Manchester United, Edwards has now issued an update on the status of Munetsi, and it is not great news.

With Marshall Munetsi a major doubt, Joao Gomes suspended, and Ladislav Krejci nursing his way back from injury, who does Rob Edwards play in midfield against Manchester United?

The midfielder has not been a fan favourite, mainly due to his technical limitations, but with Munetsi, you could never fault his work ethic.

And now this calf injury could also put Munetsi out of playing for Zimbabwe at the African Cup of Nations, as the Wolves head coach says, “We don’t know the full details yet.”

The injury also arrives at a terrible time for Edwards, as his midfield options ahead of playing Manchester United are now looking extremely slim.

Marshall Munetsi’s injury is a big blow with Joao Gomes suspended

With Marshall Munetsi a big doubt to feature against Ruben Amorim’s side, Rob Edwards will have a big decision to make.

Joao Gomes’ suspension has not made life any easier for the head coach.

The last update on Ladislav Krejci was that he was training on grass, but not with the rest of the group.

If the Czech is not at 100%, Edwards may be forced to start him anyway. The only fit midfield options at present are now Andre and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.

The Haitian is capable of playing in a deeper midfield role, but his ball-carrying abilities further up the pitch have been much needed in recent weeks.

It is an unwanted headache for Rob Edwards.
